Falcons, Hilltoppers Tie 1-1

October 19, 2013

NEWPORT-Two first half goals, one by each team, was all the scoring that would happen on Saturday morning, as the North Country and St. Johnsbury field hockey teams tied 1-1 in the final regular season match-up of 2013.
Brittany Verge's rocket put the Falcons up 1-0 with 12:20 left in the first half, but the Hilltoppers' Danielle Martin tied the game 6 minutes later and that would be all the scoring the game would have.
North Country dominated for long stretches during the second half and into overtime, but could not find the back of the net a second time.

North Country's Ryan Paul Stops 23 in Epic Battle With Essex

October 18, 2013

NEWPORT-Ryan Paul's performance in the North Country nets on Friday night is the stuff that legends are built upon. The senior netminder, along with the defenders playing in front of him, combined to stop close to thirty shots from entering the Falcon goal against the Essex Hornets.
Essex threw everything but the kitchen sink at the Falcons, but the entire team battled as one, giving what could arguably be called the team's finest performance of 2013.

Talented Colchester Team Tops North Country 2-0

October 16, 2013

NEWPORT–Despite a few lapses in play, the North Country boys soccer team gave a tremendous effort in their 2-0 loss to Colchester on Wednesday.
"We came out flat in the first five minutes of the (first) half and (Colchester) was able to knock one in, and then we woke up and finished strong," said NCU coach James McKenny. "That is the reality of the Metro, if you make a couple of mistakes, you are going to pay for it."
The opening twenty minutes of play belonged to Colchester.

Late Penalty Kick Sends Colchester Past North Country

October 15, 2013

NEWPORT-Brenna McMannon's penalty kick goal with 9:15 left to play was the difference as the Colchester Lakers defeated the North Country Falcons 2-1 on Tuesday afternoon.
"Those are points we need to have as we are trying to make the play-offs, which isn't a lock, and we are trying to avoid the 16th seed," NCU coach Peter Alexander said about the significance of the loss.
The Falcons were once again without some key players, as Michaela Columbia is out for the season, Devinnie Davis was sick, and Dasha Plotnikov was inactive.

Lady Crusaders Spirits High Despite Tough Loss to Concord

October 14, 2013

NEWPORT–With Gardner Park’s carpet slick from the day's rain showers, the UCA girls hosted the Concord Wildcats on Monday afternoon.
After trailing 1-0 heading into the second half, UCA would tie the contest only to have Concord's Cecelia Chamul score on a break away with twenty seconds left in the game to give the Wildcats the win.
Normally a late goal like that would dampen the spirits of most any team, but UCA is not just any team, they are a group of girls that have worked extremely hard to better themselves as soccer players, and they were pleased with Monday's efforts.
