Porous Defense Does in Lady Rangers Against BFA

May 8, 2013

ORLEANS-The BFA Fairfax Bullets used seven runs in the 5th inning to break open a close game en route to a 15-1 decision over Lake Region in high school softball Tuesday.
In what has become a recurring theme for the Rangers this season, poor defense opened the flood gates for a Fairfax club that has won 27 of their last 28 games. “Offensively, we’ve been doing some good things,” said Ranger coach Matt Tinker. “But defensively… man, we need to figure some things out.”

ORLEANS–For most of Tuesday's contest between Lake Region and BFA Fairfax, the Rangers' Matt Messier and the Bullets' Alex Chapman engaged in quite the pitchers duel, but a four-run 7th inning broke things open for BFA, and they won 7-1 going away.
With the loss, Lake Region now stands at 4-3, while BFA remains undefeated at 8-0.
Matt Messier took the loss, striking out 10, and walking five.
Alex Chapman won, fanning 11 and walking one.
Next up for the Rangers, they will travel today to face Hazen at 4:30.
