September 29, 2013

FIELD HOCKEY
Spaulding 2, No. Country 0
The next day brought more fantastic weather and more Spaulding athletic teams to the fields at North Country Union.
On the field hockey green, the Falcons got off to a good start, playing with energy as they looked to bounce back from their first loss of the season, a tough 3-0 defeat at the hands of Harwood on Thursday afternoon.
But Spaulding's Kassandra Perantoni and Nichole Weeks scored less than a minute apart at the mid-point of the first half, and that would be all she wrote.

Spaulding Tops Falcons in Physical Soccer Match

September 27, 2013

NEWPORT-After getting down 1-0 to Spaulding less than five minutes into the first half, the North Country boys soccer team did everything they could, but try as they might, they did not find the back of the Spaulding net and fell to 2-5 on the season on Friday evening.
The contest itself was extremely physical, but for the most part the officials let the boys play.
However there were two incidents that North Country would not slide, and subsequently both Henok Palin and coach James McKenny were issued yellow cards.
Spaulding's Moss Milo had the lone tally in the contest.

Waltrip Racing Controversy Puts Added Pressure On Bowyer

September 25, 2013

LOUDON-With the final weeks of the NASCAR season in play, you don’t really need any distractions.
For Clint Bowyer it hasn’t worked out that way.
A suspicious spinout during the final race in Richmond paved the way for teammate Martin Truex to make the final 12 drivers for the Sprint Cup Championship.
The powers that be in NASCAR came down hard, knocking out Truex and heavily fining the Michael Waltrip team.
While Bowyer is saying little about the incident, there is still a Chase to run.

BURLINGTON–Despite losing 1-0, the North Country Falcons had what coach James McKenny called the "best showing of the season" when they took on the Burlington Seahorses on Tuesday.
"This was a big turn around for us," said McKenny. "We came together and played a full eighty minutes of soccer. We hung with (BHS) and I am pleased with our results."
The Falcons and Seahorses took a 0-0 tie into the half, and it was not until the 28 minute marker that Burlington was able to beat NCU keeper Ryan Paul for the eventual game winner.
Paul finished the game with 8 saves.

"We came out flat, it is as simple as that," said NCU coach James McKenny. "We missed a lot of chances, a lot of set pieces we had inside their defensive third and we weren't able to capitalize on any of them.

Bocelli Nets Three to Lead Falcons Past Solons

September 20, 2013

NEWPORT-Briana Bocelli's first-half hat trick was all the Falcons would need, but they added one more, defeating Montpelier 4-1 in their long-awaited home debut on Friday.

They will look to keep the ball rolling next Thursday when they travel to Waterbury to take on Harwood.
