ORLEANS-The Orleans County Babe Ruth season came to a close on Saturday June 29, 2013 with LR 2 defeating LR 1 13 to 2.
LR 2 ended the season with an 8 game win streak to claim the title.
LR 1 outlasted a determined North Country squad, in a classic double elimination tournament that saw North Country win the first game, but LR 1 battled back to play in the championship game.
All local athletes did a tremendous job in the short season.
The regular season included games with the Lyndon Babe Ruth league, providing our youngsters the opportunity to compete on a larger stage.
BARTON-This past weekend, North Country and Lake Region completed the 12-U District Championship Tournament.
On Thursday, North Country took it to Lake Region, beating them 10-0 in four innings.
This put the pressure on Lake Region to defeat Northfield Saturday, then win back-to-back games over NC to take the title.
Lake Region cruised on Saturday, despite a change in venue to Barton due to the saturated field at Gardner Park and a one hour rain delay.
Solid pitching and timely hitting were the keys to the North Country 10 & Under All-Star teamâs success at the Tournoi National in Drummondville from June 21st -23rd.
NC pitchers Jack Young, Bryce âGunneyâ Gunn, David Lessard and Isaac Bliss combined to allow only five runs in four games to take home the championship banner.

NEWPORT-In what could only be called a shocker, North Country shut-out Lake Region in District Tournament play on Thursday.
Aidan Gariepy was dominant, getting the win for the maroon and blue.
His backstop Nick Bingham was a beast at the plate, driving in two runs in the third to break open what was a 2-0 game.
Oh, and he also yanked home as well.
With the win, North Country all but writes their ticket to the State Tournament.
Lake Region, who will be hosting States in Barton, already gets a bye into the Tourney.
NEWPORTâWith the sun shining bright, drying out a field that was soaked earlier in the day by rain, North Country amassed ten runs in the first four innings to defeat Lake Region 10-0 to advance to the Vermont State 10-U Cal Ripken Tournament.
David Lessard got the start for North Country, and he was on fire, striking out the first six batters he faced on twenty-nine pitches.
Lessard would get the offense started as well, drawing a first inning walk, stealing second and scoring on a double steal.
NEWPORTâWith a steady drizzle making playing conditions less than ideal, the North Country 12-U baseball team quickly and efficiently disposed of Northfield 10- in four innings on Tuesday evening.
Aidan Gariepy paced the maroon and blue, blasting a three-run home run in the first for the game winning runs, and then ended the game with an RBI single in the fourth.
Much like the day before, Vermont State Cal Ripken Commissioner Bernie Gonyaw opened the day with a ceremonial first pitch.
Then North Country went to work.
NEWPORTâIsaac Bliss hit a two-run home run in the first inning and his teammates would score five more runs in the fifth inning, as North Country bested Lake Region 7-1 to kick off the 10-U district tournament on Monday.
After darkening skies threatened to post-pone the start of the tournament, the sun made an appearance for the duration of the game, and the two teams were able to get their game in.
Vermont State Cal Ripken Commissioner Bernie Gonyaw threw out the ceremonial first pitch, and after that it was game on.
NEWPORT-Orleans-Essex-Caledonia's Tyler Sanville drove home the game winning run in the 9th inning of the OEC v Franklin County Legion ball contest, allowing the home-county Kings to pick up a 7-6 win in their only scheduled appearance at Gardner Park.
Special thanks to Tammy LaCourse for the updates.
Looking ahead, the Kings will be in Burlington for a doubleheader on 6-23-13, and as info becomes available, it will be posted.
No details on Graciano's lower-body injury as of yet. For Kings' fans, hopefully it's not as bad as Bergeron's.
The Lake Region Babe Ruth 1 Team came away with a convincing 10â4 win over Newport on Tuesday night thanks to timely hitting, good solid defense and strong pitching from Denver Bodette.
Newport had one bad inning, the third, where they gave up 7 unearned runs on physical & mental errors that lead to there down fall.
A bright spot for Newport was the pitching of Caleb Lanoue and T.J. Santaw, with both pitchers striking out 5 of 6 batters in 2 innings of work. Newport faces Lyndonville at home on Thursday, with Lake Region 1 facing Lake Region 2 on the same day.
Game time is 6:00.
GLOVERâUnder threatening skies and over a partially mown field, the Glover Red Sox and the Derby Tigers squared off for the Orleans County Cal Ripken Majorsâ Championship last Thursday.
