Falcons Avenge Play-off Loss, Defeat Rutland 3-0

JAY-North Country was without two key forwards when they hit the ice on Saturday morning to take on the Rutland Red Raiders, but coach Claude Paul made the necessary adjustments, and the Falcon girls came away with the 3-0 win to improve to 9-3-1 this season.
"I thought we played a disciplined, defensive game... after the first," said coach Paul after the game. "I liked the way the D played and I liked the way we were moving the puck up the ice quickly."

North Country Cruises Past Stowe in One-sided Victory

JAY-Kody Halikas had three goals and an assist and Ryan O'Donnell returned from his two game suspension to score his first career varsity goal as the North Country boys dispensed with the Stowe Raiders 7-1 to conclude an excellent afternoon of Falcon hockey on Saturday.
"I think we moved the puck around well and some guys buried the pucks when they had the opportunity to do so," said coach Andrew Roy.
Chase LaCourse and Chris Bronson combined to stop fifteen shots for the Falcons. Dylan Whitaker was a very busy man in this game, blocking thirty out of thirty seven shots for Stowe.

Ranger Girls End Week With Wins Over Enosburg and BBA

WINDSOR–The Lake Region girls defeated Burr and Burton Academy on Saturday afternoon to improve to 8-2 on the season.
"Our team defense showed improvement with better rotations and strong help D," said coach Mark Tinker. "With the better defense we were able to hold them to just twenty-two percent shooting for the game."
This is the third win in a row for Lake Region.
After defeating Lyndon Institute a week ago, they had a fine comeback win over Enosburg on Thursday evening at the Don Harter Memorial Gym.

Redhawks Show No Weakness in Win Over Falcons

There is no two ways about, the Champlain Valley girls basketball team is a force to be reckoned with.
Coming into Friday's game with North Country, their record stood at 9-0.
Heading out of the Falcon gym it was 10-0, as they handed North Country a 63-22 loss to improve on their already impressive record.
Sadie Otley, on the strength of her four three's, led all scorers with sixteen points.
Desiree Coffin and Hollie Smith each had a team-high four points as the Falcons dip below .500 at 4-5.
Tuesday will see the NCU host BFA St. Albans with tip-off scheduled for 6:30.

Hockey Falcons Sweep Doubleheader

The Falcons swept their Saturday Matinee Doubleheader with the girls winning 3-0 and the boys 7-1.

Five Goal First Sparks Falcons in Complete Game Effort

JAY-Hockey Night in Jay opened up with the North Country girls soundly defeating a very good Northfield team 7-1 in game one of the boy-girl doubleheader on a night where it felt warmer to be inside the rink than out.
The girls pumped home five first period goals, giving the coaching staff exactly what they have been looking for this season, in a very complete-team win.
"We were finally putting the puck in the net and I think we caught them a little flat footed," said coach Claude Paul. "They had some issues with their team today so I don't think they came out ready at the start."

Shorthanded North Country Ices Colchester 4-3

JAY–With temperatures in the negative teens, and a wind chill factor that made it feel another fifteen degrees colder, family, friends and fans alike braved the conditions to come out and watch the North Country boys hockey team play a very balanced, competitive and clean game as they defeated Colchester 4-3 on Wednesday evening.
"This was a great rebound for us," said coach Andrew Roy. "The guys played smart and probably blocked more shots than in the other nine games combined.

Rangers Take Care of Business, Defeat Richford 66-43

ORLEANS–The Lake Region boys flexed their muscle on Tuesday night, easily defeating the Richford Falcons by the score of 66-43.
"I thought we held it out and the guys played well down the stretch," said LR coach James Ingalls. "We had our little places where we fell asleep for a while, but they worked well together."
Drew Gallup led the charge for the now 11-0 Rangers, scoring a team-high eighteen points.
The win keeps LRU in second place in Division II, tied record-wise with Vergennes, but trailing them in index points.

Falcons Fall on the Road to Brattleboro 2-1

BRATTLEBORO–Despite putting over twenty shots on net, the North Country girl’s hockey team could only manage to score one goal in their 2-1 loss on Monday afternoon.
“We couldn’t put anything in, and everything we did seemed to be off,” said coach Claude Paul.
“We played down to their level and made another goalie look good.”
Brattleboro would stake themselves a 2-0 lead, and they made it stand up for the entire game.
The lone Falcon goal came in the third period when Whitney Bernier scored, with assists going to Jenna Moss and Savannah Alberghini-Giroux.

Lake Region Outlasts Lyndon to Earn Win Number Six

January 22, 2013

ORLEANS–It wasn't easy, but the Lake Region girls were able to overcome a rough third quarter to pick up the 48-39 win over Lyndon Institute on Monday evening at the Don Harter Memorial Gymnasium.
"When we needed to, the kids gutted it out and picked up their intensity and did the things we had to do, said LRU coach Mark Tinker.
Kayla Jardine would lead all scorers with twenty points for 0-8 Lyndon, and Emily Lawson's twelve were tops for Lake Region.
Drew Neal was also in double digits with eleven for LRU, who improve to 6-2 on the season.
