Round-up: Falcon Hockey Girls Get Lone Win in Busy Weekend

Brandon Streeter's second goal of the night sealed the Falcons fate as BFA came from behind to win their third straight overtime contest at the Collins-Perley Sports Complex against North Country.
“BFA has a lot of depth and they are a tough team to beat, especially in their own barn," said head coach Andrew Roy.
After weathering a barrage of shots in the first five minutes, things settled down for the Falcons, and after one, the boys were up 2-1 on goals by Logan Fortier and Kody Halikas.

From Trampoline to Inside the Ring, Tyler Tinker is Ready to Rumble

Tyler Tinker is like many recent college graduates, he is looking to move on, find gainful employment and begin the next phase of his life.
Tyler wrapped up his collegiate career, for now, as he says he may pursue a masters degree at a later date, and will be heading to Florida to see if he can make his professional dreams come true.
Only he will not be going there just with a degree the exercise sciences, oh no.
He will be going there to make his mark in the world of professional wrestling, for you see it is not just Tyler Tinker that is making the 1,500 mile journey south.

UCA Earns Split at Concord

CONCORD–Chris DeLaBruere had 21 points, and two other Crusaders were in double-digits as UCA defeated Concord (1-6) on Tuesday evening to move to a Division IV best 8-1.
"We didn't shoot as well as we wanted to but Marquel Taylor-Webster had another strong game inside with 13 pts and 18 boards, while Chris added 8 boards to go along with his 21," said coach Tony DeLaBruere. "Defensively we still have much work to do, but some adjustments offensively at half time really seemed to work for us and allowed us to take advantage of our inside game which seems to be clicking right now."

Lamoille Halts Lake Region’s Win Streak at Five

ORLEANS–Ten days in between games is a long stretch for any team, and it showed on Tuesday night as Lake Region fell for the first time this season, losing 38-35 to the Lamoille Lady Lancers.
Casey Machia and Drew Neal each had 10 points to lead their respective teams in scoring.
Next up for 5-1 Lake Region is a visit from Hazen this Friday. Tip-off is at 7:00.

Falcons Find a Way to Win Despite Fourteen Penalties

JAY-Kody Halikas had two first period goals and four different players had a goal apiece as the North Country Falcons defeated the Missisquoi Thunderbirds on Saturday night.
It was another penalty filled contest, the second in a row in Jay for the Falcons, as the home team racked up fourteen calls, including one five and three ten minute misconducts. MVU had nine penalties, with two being ten minute misconducts.
"We had some bright spots and we had some dark spots," coach Andrew Roy said when asked of his overall impression of the game.

Taylor-Webster’s 24 Points Leads UCA Past Cabot 60-47

NEWPORT–For a game that ended at 60-47, UCA's win over Cabot in boy's basketball felt a lot closer than it actually was.
Much of the game was played with UCA leading by about twenty points, but Coach Tony DeLaBruere hard a hard time believing the point differential.
"Every time I looked at the score I couldn't believe it and we were fortunate to be where we were at the end because it should have been much closer game," he said after the game.
Things got off to a slow pace, with both teams trying to find a rhythm they were comfortable with.

Big First Quarter Paves Way for Lady Crusaders Third Win

NEWPORT–The UCA girls picked up their third win of the season, and their second over Cabot, as they won a close one 40-37.
It didn't start out too close as UCA came out on fire, scoring sixteen points in the first.
"We talked about coming out strong and it was nice to see them come out strong and be confident," said coach Molly Smith.
Hannah Piette was dealing, knocking home two from downtown and one from a bit closer.
Amy DeLaBruere continues to improve her game and she had four points, as did Laura Libby.

Weekend Round-up: Falcon Girl’s Hockey, Lake Region Boys Pick up Wins

MONTPELIER-Mikaella Doran stopped thirteen shots and the Falcons scored a pair of goals to defeat U-32 2-0 on Saturday evening.
"It was our usual M.O., we couldn't score, but we had a much better first period," said coach Claude Paul.
The Falcons did manage to get one in the first, as they out-shot the Raiders 10-5 in the period.
Emily Doty notched her second of the season, converting on a Corrina Cota pass to make it 1-0.

Falcons Storm Back to Earn 2-2 Tie with Rice

JAY–Despite playing with a bad back, Taylor Morley had a goal and an assist as North Country rallied to salvage a 2-2 tie with the Rice Green Knights on Wednesday evening.
"From the end of the second period on, it was our game, and I think with a little more puck-luck we would have won in overtime,” said coach Claude Paul. “That is how I want to see us play, the way we did in the third period. It was good to see them come back and get a positive out of a negative start."

Round-up UCA Earns Split With Masse Vanier, Falcon Boys Defeat MMU

NEWPORT–Nineteen first quarter points combined with some tenacious defense fueled the UCA boys, as they defeated Masse Vanier in an international contest Monday afternoon at the Newport municipal building.
“It is a different kind of game on such a small court,” said UCA coach Tony DeLaBruere. “This win was because of the stellar defense in the 1st half, holding them to 9 pts.”
Marquel Taylor-Webster had his best game of the season, scoring 24 points and grabbing 20 rebounds while disrupting many shots in the paint.
