Sky’s the Limit for North Country Golfer Katie Goulet

NEWPORT–If you are a regular reader of these pages, or a steady golfer at the Newport Country Club, then you are no doubt familiar with the name Katie Goulet.
Katie is a freshman, soon to be a sophomore, at North Country Union High School, and she is about to wrap up what has been a fantastic rookie campaign at the high school golf level.
The 15 year-old Derby resident placed 3rd in Division I, and this just been updated, 4th overall in the state of Vermont at the State Tournament, which qualified her for the New England Golf Championships to be held at on June 23rd in Keene, NH.

North Country Track and Field Continues Moving Forward

BURLINGTON-Division One's best and brightest track and field stars were at Burlington High School on Saturday to take part in the State Meet on what turned out to be a beautiful summer day.
The North Country Falcons sent over thirteen competitors to the meet, including senior Jenna Moss, who opted to compete at the event instead of take part in her graduation ceremony.

Rangers and Chargers Compete at D III and D IV Track Meets

Division III Meet
CHESTER-The Division III Vermont State Track Meet was held at Green Mountain High School on Saturday, and the Lake Region Rangers were there representing Orleans County in fine fashion.
The girls relay teams were on fire on Saturday, as Tyrah Urie, Haley Kennedy Karamae Hayman-Jones and Emily Close teamed up to win the girls 4x400 with a time of 4:26.24.
Urie and Hayman-Jones picked up another blue ribbon when, along with Averill Snyder and Karina Cimborova, won the 4x100 in 54.24 seconds.

Lyndon Tops Lake Region in Division II Quarter-finals

LYNDON–Lake Region's Matt Messier and Lyndon Institute's Davis Guyer engaged in a lengthy pitcher's duel on Friday, and in the end it would be the senior Guyer winning the battle, leading his team to a 4-1 win over the Rangers in the Division II baseball quarter-finals.

North Country Girls Finish 6th at State Tournament

WILLISTON-North Country Union High School’s girls golf team traveled to Williston Country Club on Monday for a practice round prior to Tuesday’s State Finals.
Representing the team was freshman Katie Goulet, junior Tanika Demers, and senior/captain Paige Gagnon.
Each day was hotter than the next, and with the humidity and hilly course, scoring was a challenge.
Katie’s practice round was actually better than her competitive round by eight strokes.
Her 91 on Tuesday placed her 3rd in Division I and 5th overall in Vermont.

Lady Rangers Win Division Two State Golf Title

After coming so close to winning last season, the Lake Region trio of Olivia King, Celeste Lussier and Rebecca Doucet were able to climb the mountain, as they shot a 201 to edge out Rice by six strokes and bring home the Division II State Title.
"It's very satisfying to win after being the runner-up last year," said senior Celeste Lussier. "We had the 'State Champ' mentality all year, and finally all the hard work paid off."
Another thing that paid off was playing a tougher Metro Division schedule this season, which gave the Lady Rangers much tougher competition than in previous years.

Rangers Advance to 2nd Round on Messier’s Walk Off Double

ORLEANS-The Lake Region Rangers played host to the Mount Abraham Eagles in the opening round of the Division II play-offs on Tuesday, and armed with will and determination, they rallied back from a 3-2, 7th inning hole to win with a walk-off double by Matt Messier.
"I was happy to pull it out,” said LR coach Eric Degre. "I am glad the boys didn't give up. We could have easily just folded over.”

St. Johnsbury Outlasts North Country, Wins 5-4

ST. JOHNSBURY- The North Country Union softball team lost 5-4 as they visited St. Johnsbury Academy Tuesday evening for the first round of play-offs.
“We need to beat the teams we can beat,” said NCU coach LeslieDunn in a post-game interview. “We handed too many away this year. It’s the little things.”

Loses Not the Story in Falcons’ Final Two Games

NEWPORT-The North Country Falcons wrapped up their regular season on Saturday with a doubleheader against first Rice, and then second St. Johnsbury.
While neither game went the way the Falcons would have wanted, what did happen was a fine display of just how far this year's team has advanced from the teams that have recently come before them.
"I thought the effort was good," said NCU coach Brian Bonvechio. "In the second game I thought we played hard, we had a couple of physical mistakes, errors, but those are going to happen, you can't eliminate those so I have nothing to complain about.

Rangers Finish Season With Win Over Danville

ORLEANS- In an efficient five innings, Lake Region baseball defeated guest Danville Friday afternoon before the umpires called the game early due to thunder and rain.
Josh Locke took the mound for the home squad and continued a productive season by doing what he is supposed to: throw strikes. The defense behind him would worry about the rest.
