October 11, 2011

On Friday, September 30th, the NCUHS Girls Varsity Soccer team ran a training session for the Junior High program in Derby. The session started with an overview of the high school program, expectations for the pre-season, and the fall try-out procedure explained by Varsity coaches Peter Alexander and Joe Batista. Both coaches Steve Farrow (7th grade) and Amanda Blaisdell (8thgrade) had their players participate in the dynamic stretch routine that mimics the soccer warm-up at UVM.

ORLEANS–"My hats of to Enosburg, and that's all I'm going to say."
Those are the only words spoken to me by Coach Tom Evans after Lake Region's 2-0 loss to Enosburg on Monday night.
Judging by his words and tone, coach, you can imagine how Evans felt about his team's performance on the pitch.
Things started out on the wrong foot for LR personnel wise as sophomore goaltender Alex Beauregard started the game on the bench due to what sources cited as a disciplinary matter.

NCUHS Falcon Fortitude Prevails, 20-18

October 9, 2011

BELLOW FALLS–It’s nice to be able to roll along unimpeded during your regular season. The North Country Falcons have for the most part enjoyed that. Most coaches will also tell you learn more from a loss or a stern test than you do winning.
That was the case Saturday as the Falcons got themselves out of a contest that they very well could have loss. NCU came up big with a late game defensive stand and a big play offense as they got by a good Bellows Falls Terrier team 20-18.

Urie Nets Two in Lady Rangers 2-1 OT Win

October 9, 2011

ORLEANS – Lake Region jumped out early against the Danville Indians, but it took their 3rd overtime session of the year before the Blue and White could walk away with the 2-1 victory off the foot of the teams’ leading scorer, Tyrah Urie.

Twinfield Tops Craftsbury 3-0

October 9, 2011

PLAINFIELD -- The Craftsbury Academy Chargers squared off against the Twinfield Trojans and walked away emptied handed, as they were blanked 3-0. Coach Mike Ruetz said that his team, “played really hard and physical.” And that his team was, “determined to get the victory, but that luck, just isn’t on their side.” A penalty kick, on a questionable shoulder-to-shoulder contact call, 5 minutes into the contest gave the Trojans an early 1-0 lead and shifted the momentum in their favor.

7-0 win for Lake Region Boys Over Richford

RICHFORD – After suffering a narrow 1-0 defeat to the Hazen Wildcats, the Lake Region Rangers got back to their winning way Thursday afternoon, beating the Falcons of Richford by a score of 7-0. Tony Stuart lead the Lake Region scoring attack with 2 goals; while Caleb Royer, Kyle Perry, Josh Thibault, Corey Whitten, and Brian Mosher each found the back of the net once for the Blue and White. Spartan Defeat Crusaders 5-0

October 7, 2011

NEWPORT– A strong second half surge by the Winooski Spartans led to 5-0 loss for the UCA Crusader girls on Friday.
Coming into the start of last week, UCA had played only three games this season: by 6:00 Friday evening they had played six, and might have been on their last legs coming into the contest.
The first half was an even affair with both teams getting chances, but first halves have not really been the forte of UCA in 2011, as more times than not they have found themselves down early and having to play from behind.

Falcons Make it Three Shut-outs in Row, Defeat U-32 3-0

October 7, 2011

EAST MONTPELIER– The North Country girls soccer team made it three straight shut-outs in a row on Friday, defeating U-32 while playing on the Raiders' varsity football field.
"The field was in terrible condition, very muddy and really torn up," said Coach Alexander, "But the girls did an excellent job keeping the ball out of the trampled middle and pushing the ball outside.
"This is probably our best overall effort this year. We won all the 50/50 balls and we also took some clean fouls. You have to be able to take those kinds of fouls, it is what you need to do."
