MORGAN â Eli Gossâ many friends created an ice fishing tournament five years ago to honor him and raise money for scholarships. It also helped them through the grieving process after he died in a car accident.
The Eli Goss Memorial Ice Fishing Derby will take place this weekend, February 20-22 at Lake Seymour.

The outcry over public safety and job losses continues over the potential closing of the Derby Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP). Dispatchers and local legislators came together at the Derby board of selectmenâs meeting Monday to talk about the issue and how to stop it.
The Newport City council signed a resolution Monday that says it opposes the closure of the public safety answering points (PSAPs) at the state police barracks in Derby and Rutland.

DERBY- In spite of the bitterly cold weather and lots of snow, the eleventh annual Northeast Kingdom Ice Fishing Derby drew 570 adults and 120 kids between February 12 and 15, and encompassed lakes and ponds throughout the Northeast Kingdom, Franklin County and Lamoille County.

Another race is on this year for the position of delinquent tax collector for Derby. Candidate Claudia Letourneau is seeking the position after becoming more interested in being involved in local government business.
The current delinquent tax collector, Mary Ann Tetreault, who is also the assistant town clerk, beat out her former boss, Nicole Daigle, for the position of delinquent tax collector and has faced a challenger every year since, but has come out ahead each time.
