MORE HOUSING FOR COVENTRY

COVENTRY – New housing continues to pop up in the Northeast Kingdom. Local developer Tony Tanguay has received a conditional permit to build homes on seven lots off the Alderbrook Road. The lots range from about three acres to 26 acres. Buyers may subdivide their lots into smaller ones. Tanguay's property has a total of 55 acres.

Beauregard Scores Three, Roberge Two, as Rangers Win

ORLEANS–Alex Beauregard kept up his torrid goal scoring pace, netting three goals in Lake Region's 6-2 victory over Hazen on Monday afternoon.
"Anytime you score six goals you have got to be happy," said LR coach Tom Evans. "I thought we did well in the attacking third, but hats off to Hazen, I thought they really out-played us in the midfield, but we finished and they didn't."
Said Beauregard on his early success this season, "Things are just happening. I'm getting good touches on the ball and getting good passes from my teammates."

SCARECROW CONTEST IS COMING

NEWPORT/ DERBY – Newport and Derby businesses plus homes in both towns can participate in the Fall Foliage Festival’s Scarecrow Contest and win prizes.
Awards will be handed out for the Most Traditional, Most Creative, and Most Colorful scarecrows in both the Business and Residential categories.

NEWPORT AMBULANCE ANNOUNCES NEW SUPERVISOR POSITIONS

NEWPORT – Monday, Sept. 4, Michael Paradis, Executive Director of Newport Ambulance, announced two new supervisory positions in the company effective Sept. 9.
The first is the establishment of a clinical supervisor position, primarily responsible for the increasingly complex medical education, training and quality improvement for nearly 50 employees of both the Newport and Johnson divisions. Especially important is the current transition to expand scopes of practice for all levels of EMT and paramedics, as well as assuring that all personnel are properly credentialed for the job.

BORDER BUSINESS

DERBY LINE – High ranking government officials and local leaders met in Vermont in late August to discuss shortages in U.S. Custom’s personnel along Vermont’s northern border.
Among those present at the meeting were Senator Bernie Sanders, Acting  Deputy  Assistant Commissioner for U.S. Customs  and Border Protection (CBP) John Wagner and other CBP officials, state leaders, and economic development representatives from  northern Vermont.

FALL FESTIVAL ON ITS WAY

NEWPORT/DERBY – The Newport and Derby area will come alive the last weekend in September as it hosts the Newport Fall Foliage Festival.
Event organizers say there will be everything from a street parade of antique and classic cars, to an arts and crafts show, chili contest, strolling street musicians, cycling event, a scarecrow contest, and even a Rotary Duck Race.
The area is promoting itself as “Where Fall Foliage Begins” in Vermont, a state known world-wide for its fabulous fall foliage.

JAY – Jay Peak Resort president Bill Stenger met with members of the media and local officials Friday as he described the progress that has been made with the Northeast Kingdom Economic Development Initiative (NEKEDI) over the last year and gave an update on future projects in the City of Newport.

Lady Rangers Continue to Roll, Defeat Lamoille 2-0

ORLEANS-Haley Kennedy popped in a goal just two and a half minutes into the first half, and that is all the Lady Rangers would need, as they went on to defeat Lamoille 2-0 on Saturday morning.
"I'm happy to get a win against a Division II team," said LR coach Brad Urie. "(Lamoille) played two tough games before this one, and I knew they were ready to win, thankfully it wasn't against us."
