GLOVER - Shortly after 7 PM Monday, Democrat John S. Rodgers officially launched his candidacy for the Vermont State Senate.
Speaking to a small crowd gathered under a white tent behind the Parker Pie Company in West Glover, VT, Rodgers spoke about his intention to do what is right for his constituents.
Rodgers urged voters to trust his record. Rodgers said that Republican opponent Bob Lewis, who has been endorsed by outgoing state senator Vince Illuzzi, may have been in Montpelier "to occupy a seat," but while Rodgers served in the Vermont House, he was there to get things done.
DERBY - Vermont State Police have reported an attempted burglary at the Lague residence on Ridegehill Drive in Derby.
According to police, a man attempted to punch out a window into a basement bedroom but was confronted by the occupant, Joshua Lague, who was woken by the sound of broken glass. Lague gave chase on foot but the thwarted burglar escaped.
Police believe the burglar may have escaped to a nearby car because evidence suggests a vehicle peeled out, leaving skid marks behind.
BRIGHTON â The wind turbine parts destined for Green Mountain Powerâs (GMP) wind turbine project on the Lowell Mountains are arriving in Island Pondâs train yard. The parts will wait at a staging area at a nearby lumber yard.
Joel Cope, the administrative assistant in Brighton, said there were concerns but the town has worked closely with GMP, the state, and the trucking companies to ensure any issues are addressed.
NEWPORT CITY â Police and rescue personnel responded to the area around Habaneroâs Mexican Grill yesterday. What actually happened is a bit unclear.
Newport Ambulance Service responded to the restaurant around 10 a.m., for a report of an unresponsive male in his late 30s. According to scanner reports, the person apparently declined to be transported the hospital. Sources close to the Express state that a local resident found a wallet in a nearby parking lot and turned it over to police.
Police are mum on what actually happened, except to say that they had a call at the restaurant.

On June 15, 2012, Philip R. Collette left this Earth surrounded by his loving family in Punta Gorda, Florida at Peace River Regional Hospital. Up until then, he had been living in Port Charlotte, Florida where he and his perfect match (Marcella, whom he married 66 years ago) have been enjoying retirement for 32 years. He passed without much discomfort after dealing with failing health for the last few years. This comfortable home was their pride and joy; with beautiful gardens, fruit trees and vegetables that the neighbors envied for many years.

Cabotââ Nelson Knight âBudâ Abbott, 63, died unexpectedly on July 1, 2012, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was born June 27, 1949 in Barre, the son of Knight and Ruth (Nelson) Abbott. He graduated from Cabot High School in the class of 1967. On August 8, 1986 he married Yolanda âYogiâ Hall in Woodbury.
In his earlier years he was a machinist for Elltee in Barre, The Vermont Machine Co. in Hardwick, Estabrook Engineering in Derby, and from 1979 until he retired he was employed by Russell Supply Co. in Burlington.
