VTrans Wants Walmart Developer To Pay For Road Improvements

The Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTrans) wants the developer of the proposed Walmart supercenter to pay the full cost of a traffic light at the entrance and for upgrades to the interstate exit ramps in Derby, if needed.

Newport Aldermen Evict Dog From City

NEWPORT CITY – The Newport City Council Monday evening saved the life of Harley, a seven-year-old pit bull, by not ordering him euthanized. However, its owner, Kellie Peters, must take him out of the city.

Orleans Superior Court: Newport Man Sentenced To Prison For Felonies

OCCA Creates Matches For Disabled Individuals

Do you have extra time that you would like to share with a local disabled individual? Why not team up with Orleans County Citizen Advocacy (OCCA) and become a friend and advocate for a disabled individual?
Chris Wellhoff, OCCA vice-president, said the organization has been in existence for about 26 years. OCCA connects advocates and disabled individuals, known as partners, who have a developmental or physical disability.

Exchange Students Provide Cultural Experience

BARTON — “I couldn’t afford to travel the world so I brought it to us,” said Toni Eubanks Monday, referring to her role as a host mother for exchange students. The Eubankses have hosted students from across the pond in Europe, as well a student from Australia.

Lake Region Wins 12-U Cal Ripken Baseball Districts

BARTON-Three runs scored in the third inning was all of the offense the 12-U Cal Ripken District Championship baseball game would see, as Lake Region defeated their neighbors to the north, North Country, 3-0 to pick up the win and take home the hardware.
"I thought it was a really good effort and our pitching was outstanding," said LR coach Rick Hudson.
Said NC coach Mike LaCourse, "I thought it was a huge improvement from the last time we played them. Our boys really came around and started battling hard, but we just ran out of time."
