Timely Scoring Sends Olympians Past Lady Rangers 2-1

ORLEANS–Tuesday's girls soccer match between Lake Region and Oxbow was a classic example of what can happen when you do not take advantage of your scoring opportunities.
Lake Region out-shot Oxbow 14-4, with several of the shots coming from prime scoring locations, but balls were either fired wide, or directly at Oxbow's netminder Meghan Williams, and the end result was a 2-1 win for the Olympians.

ST. JOHNSBURY–Myra Degre's goal with 2:43 left in the first was the difference as North Country slipped past St. Johnsbury Academy on Tuesday afternoon.
Degre's goal came on a nice through-ball from Lindsey Gaboriault that she converted on from 20 yards out.
The Falcons were without Devinnie Davis, who hopes to be back in action later this week, and Michaela Columbia, who suffered an injury over Maniatty weekend.
With the win North Country improves to 3-6, while St. J drops to 1-7-1.
The Falcons will host unbeaten CVU on Friday at 4:00.

OPENING THE DOORS

NEWPORT CITY – Monday afternoon the North Country Supervisory Union hosted an open house at their new location on Duchess Avenue. The move from the former Newport Hospital on Highland Avenue was necessary as the building is being renovated and turned into housing units.
The new facility will host the high school's alternative program, supervisory union staff, and, in an adjacent building, early childhood programs.

BARTON – Peter LeBlanc started work at Green Mountain Nursery in Irasburg in 1991 and two years later used his entrepreneurial spirit to start a landscaping business, Nature By Design.
The company moved to its present location on RT 5 between the villages of Barton and Orleans in the year 2000. A wide variety of trees, shrubs, flowering plants, and fruit trees are displayed as part of LeBlanc's substantial inventory. In addition, garden ornaments, sun dials, fountains, wind chimes, and metal suns are a part of the garden ornaments and accessories offered at the store.

MAYOR ADMITS DUI

Mayor Paul Monette appeared in court in Newport Tuesday where he entered a guilty plea to driving while under the influence. He was given a probationary sentence with conditions, community work service and a fine. Later, he read a statement in which he apologized for his behavior.

Flames poured out of this Chrysler Pacifica at the Subway Restaurant in Newport City Monday. The Newport City Fire Department responded to extinguish the fire at around noon. The cause of the fire is unknown and is considered accidental. Debra Lawes owns the vehicle, which East Main towed away. Due to the proximately of the building, the restaurant closed while the fire department dealt with the incident.

PIPE LINE WON’T ESCAPE ACT 250

NEWPORT – If a pipe line company decides to reverse the flow of oil running through the Northeast Kingdom, it is going to have to go through an Act 250 review, according to Kirsten Sultan, coordinator for the District #7 Environmental Commission.
Sultan issued a jurisdictional opinion (JO) stating that an Act 250 permit is required in the event that the Portland Montreal Pipe Line is modified and its use changed for conveyance of diluted tar sands oil, also known as diluted bitumen.
