HARTFORD – The Lady Rangers traveled to Hartford Friday afternoon to face off against the #2 seed Hurricanes, they battled hard, but in the end it wasn’t enough as they fell 1-0.
The game started off rough as a communication breakdown inside the Ranger’s 18 was cleaned up by Mariah Palmer, putting her team on top 1-0, just 90 seconds into the contest.
On the ensuing kick-off however, the Rangers went up the field with Tyrah Urie feeding Caitlyn Bernier, for what was thought to be the tying goal. But, the goal was waived off because of an offside call.

ORLEANS - If many people care about the Vermont House Seat reapportionment in the state, it wasn’t evident at a hearing conducted by the House Committee on Government Operations. The hearing, held at Lake Region Union High School Wednesday evening, only drew about 15 local residents, most of whom were politicians or connected to politics.
EAST BURKE, VT - On the same day that two other local controversial wind projects were front and center in the media statewide, a small ceremony marked the installation of a 123-foot tall wind turbine at the top of Burke Mountain.
There were no protesters, although a Caledonia County Sheriff’s Deputy was on the scene. About 25 people made up the crowd and the Tamarack Grill from Burke served hot cocoa, brownies and cookies.
Ballou–– Thomas S., 72, died unexpectedly Saturday, October 22, 2011 at his home. A celebration of Tom’s life will be held Saturday, October 29, at the Hotel Coolidge in White River Junction from 2-4 p.m. A second celebration will be held in Newport to be announced in the spring. ORLEANS–Well what can you saw about Tyrah Urie. 19 regular season goals, and in game one of the play-offs, the freshman netted two more to give Lake Region the 2-1 win against Woodstock on Wednesday afternoon.
However, things are not all sugar and spice and everything nice in Coach Urie's mind, and he had no problem letting me know that his girls were not 100 percent in the game yesterday.
"We did not seem to be playing a very good mental game, which, when you get into the play-offs, you have got to be prepared. You can't make as many mental mistakes as we just did and expect to win."
SHEFFIELD, VT - The Sheffield Wind Project is up and running - officially. The huge blades have actually been turning in the wind for a week now, but Wednesday politicians, dignitaries, representatives from Green Mountain Power and about 500 people were on hand for the official ribbon cutting ceremony and celebratory barbecue.
Some of those people, of course, included protesters who have been adamantly opposing the development of mountainous ridgeline wind farms for some time. They have argued that the turbines are inefficient, bad for the environment, and just plain ugly.
DERBY - The proposed Derby Line wind turbines project was discussed at the Derby Selectman’s meeting last week. Some spoke in favor of the turbines while others spoke out against them.
Phil Letourneau, who has looked into allowing one on his farm, said that if landowners want to put turbines on their property they should be allowed to, and what neighbors think about it shouldn’t matter. Others disagreed with Letourneau’s comments, noting that the size of the project would effect others.

NEWPORT-The stage was set. A rested healthy North Country Falcons girl’s soccer team was poised and ready to defend home turf in Division One’s first round. With ten victories recorded during the fall campaign, this team was coming off seven straight wins. A seasoned group of Falcons girls had gone through the soccer wars together with the core dominated by proud seniors.
Rice Memorial had other ideas. The Green Knights struck for two goals in the games first 7 minutes and controlled play for large segments of the game winning the first round match 3-0.
CHELSEA -- The #14 seed Craftsbury Academy Chargers faced off against the #3 seed Chelsea Red Devils in the opening round of the Division 4 State Playoffs. The Chargers gave it all they could, but it was not enough and the Red Devils walked away with a 6-1 victory.
Coach Mike Ruetz said that his team “Came out hot and was ready to play. The passes were on target and the touches on the ball were great. Our offense flowed and worked together and the defense played tremendous against the constant Chelsea pressure.”
Craftsbury would head to the half only trailing by a score of 1-0.
