NEWPORT CITY – If everything goes through, Vermonters are looking at a $102 million tax increase. That was the message Rep. Mike Marcotte of Coventry brought to Monday's Legislative Breakfast.
According to Sen. Robert Starr of North Troy, one of the proposed taxes would have been on bottled beverages. A two-liter bottle of soda that sold for a $1.25 would have had a 60-cent tax. But, according to Marcotte, lawmakers replaced the law with a six percent sales tax.

NEWPORT, VT - A winter storm warning was issued for the region from Monday at midnight through 8 a.m. Wednesday. The warning is for Eastern Adirondack Mountains, Champlain Valley, and all of Central and Northern Vermont.
The National Weather Service predicts the storm will drop 10 to 14 inches of snow with one to two inches per hour.
"A difficult morning and evening commute is expected today," states the National Weather Service. "Gusty southeast winds combined with heavy wet snow could bring down tree limbs and produce scattered power outages."

AUGUSTA, ME–Corrina Cota, Taylor Morley and the rest of the U-16 Vermont Shamrocks will once again get a chance to compete for the Tier II National Title.
Cota and Morley, who were a part of a North Country team that competed for the D II title just days before, would play a big part in the Shamrock's success over this past weekend.
After falling a little short in their quest for the gold last season, the girls are taking an even better team to San Jose, California from April 2nd through the 7th for what they hope will be a better experience.
