NEWPORT–On a gray and chilly afternoon, the North Country field hockey team paid tribute to their twelve departing seniors on Tuesday before their well played 2-0 loss to the Missisquoi Valley Union Thunderbirds.
"I'm really going to miss them," said Coach Bouchard of her outgoing seniors, "They have been my backbone ever since I started coaching here."
Three girls in particular hold a special place in Bouchard's heart; Kelsey O'Donnell, Lindsay Cotnoir and Molly Manning.
"Those three have always been on their game. They are my leadership group, and it is really sad to see them go."

NEWPORT - Nestled in the backwoods of the Northeast Kingdom, far from the hustle and bustle of city life, lives Kevin Harkey. He moved his family from Long Beach, CA to the Green Mountain State 10 years ago.
Harkey has worked on such animated films such as The Lion King, Mickey’s Christmas Carol, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, Tarzan and many others.Â
Much of Harkey’s work has been a storyboard artist. A storyboard artist, explained Harkey, puts the script to visuals.Â

LOWELL - Construction on the ridge line of Lowell Mountain for the large wind turbine project is on schedule following a week of heated controversy that included the threat of a lawsuit by Green Mountain Power (GMP) and protesters occupying an area near the construction site in an attempt to stop the project.
Turner–– John Henry, Jr., 74, of Brownington, VT passed away suddenly on October 12, 2011 in Newport, VT. Services will be held at the convenience of the family. Thompson–– Roland Elbridge, 94, passed away October 13, 2011. Calling hours will be Monday, October 17 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Corbin and Palmer Funeral Home in Essex Junction and the funeral will be held at the First Baptist Church of Burlington on Tuesday, October 18 at 11 a.m. Should friends desire, donations can be made in Roland’s memory to the Visiting Nurse Association.

GUILDHALL, VT - Mary J. Taylor, 68, of Island Pond, was found guilty of two charges stemming from an incident that occurred on June 18, 2011, at the Town of Brighton recycling shed where she is employed part time.
Taylor faces a possible sentence of not more than 60 days in jail and not more than a $500 fine or both on the disorderly conduct charge; and not more than 1 year in jail and not more than a $1,000 fine or both on the assault by menace charge. She has not yet been sentenced.
GREENSBORO - For the last 57 years, three generations of the Smith family have embraced locals and guests alike at the Highland Lodge. But last week the family concluded that it was time to close. The changing times, a world of technology, and the recent economy all contributed to this decision.
When you can no longer keep technology out of the dining room, the traditional inn model is too far outdated.
GREENSBORO - After 57 years of welcoming guests through its doors, the Smith family has decided to close the Highland Lodge. A combination of factors brought the family to this decision, and they are not the only ones.
Over the last decade, the number of inns, lodges, and bed and breakfasts in the Kingdom have slowly declined. Is this because of the economy? Or is it something more?
ORLEANS – Senior day is a special occasion for any high-school athlete. It is the day that they get recognized and get the respect paid to them that they deserve for their 4 years of service.
