NEWPORT– The Falcon field hockey girls, despite not playing at their best, should have picked up an easy win over the Solons of Montpelier. Instead, they were unable to to get their offense going and fell by the score of 1-0.
"I thought this wasn't our game, honestly I am at a lost for words," said Coach Bouchard after the game.
The Falcons clearly were the better team on the field, and that is even with all the errors that they made, but it was the little things that bothered the coach so much.

ORLEANS COUNTY- After more than 50 years, an organization of women’s groups, who worked to better themselves as well as their communities, is now coming to an end.
The Orleans County Extension Homemakers, which provided support to various groups throughout Orleans County, is officially no longer in existence.
The Derby Homemakers also disbanded. The Extension held its final annual meeting Tuesday evening in Derby Line where they enjoyed a meal and were entertained by local attorney and violinist Gertrude Miller.
NEWPORT CITY – For 42 years, Vermonters turned to WCAX newsman Marselis Parsons for the latest and in-depth news. For 25 of those years, Parsons served as news director and anchor.
Even though he retired in 2009, Parsons continues to report the occasional story.
On Wednesday, Parsons spoke at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute Lecture Series held at the Goodrich Memorial Library.
Parsons, 67, who has an obvious passion for news and storytelling, spoke about his time as a journalist and anchor. Part of his presentation included anecdotes of his time at the station.Â
NEWPORT CITY – On Wednesday, Judge Robert Bent handed down a three year deferred sentence to Matthew Farnsworth, 25, of Newport, who pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of domestic assault and a felony charge of second-degree unlawful restraint.
On Dec. 14, 2010, a woman went to the Newport Police Department to report that she had been assaulted by her ex-boyfriend, Farnsworth, at his apartment. She said she used to live at the apartment with Farnsworth and still had personal property there.
CABOT–The UCA boys varsity soccer team hit the road to square off against Cabot Wednesday night. The final score was a 4-1 loss for the Crusaders, but it was a huge success in the growth and gelling of the team.
Though UCA went into the game with no subs against Cabot's 19 man roster, they stayed in the game and kept it close until the very end.
Junior Dale Martel and Freshman Chris DeLaBruere split the net and had 30 saves between them.
The lone Crusader goal was scored by Junior Marc Quirion.

BARRE–With several of the Falcons main stays getting significant time off on Wednesday, it was the bench of the Falcons was the difference in the teams 4-1 win over Spaulding.
"Our bench was the difference maker," said Coach James McKenny, "I feel really comfortable with them out there. Clint (Provencha) especially provided a spark off the bench. He plays with a lot of heart and really raises the bar out there."
Josh Puckett was the big offensive force in the game, tallying a goal and two assists in the win, but it was a play by the youngster Provencha that got the scoring started.

NEWPORT–Sometimes all a team needs to turn a losing streak around is to come home. That is what the North Country Field hockey did as they became the last fall sports team to play a game in front of the Falcon faithful when they took on Lyndon Institute on Wednesday, exploding for a season high three goals and a 3-2 win over the Vikings.
"It was amazing," said Coach Chantelle Bouchard, "They played phenomenal, they did such a great job even though we were down two players."

DERBY LINE- Derby Line may be the home for two large wind turbines by the end of next year, and some are questioning the side effects of turbines in close proximity to residential homes.
Grand View Farm, owned by the Davis Family, would host one turbine, and the other would be on the adjacent Chase Farm, an area known for high quality wind. The question of whether or not wind turbines cause adverse health effects remains on-going and controversial.
