MORRISVILLE â€“ The Lake Region Rangers took to the course for their first meet of the season at the Copley Country Club on Thursday afternoon. Matt Morin, last yearâ€™s Division 3 State Medalist, looks for another strong run in his senior campaign.
The opening meet of the season didnâ€™t fare well for the Rangers however. Morin shot a 4 over 39 to pace the squad. Carl Oberg shot a 50, while Connor Gaboriault and Holden Poirier each placed with scores of 56.

Clarence James Ogilvie, 85, died peacefully at home in Parkton, Maryland on Friday, April 27, 2012. Clarence was born at home October 6, 1926 in Houston, Texas, the youngest child of Edwin Deady and Eulalia (Risley) Ogilvie.
April 20, 1916-January 26, 2012
Simone Durose, 95, a recent resident of Crofton, Maryland, died peacefully on January 26, 2012. Born on April 20, 1916 in Barton, Vermont to parents Zacharie (Pete) and Adele Therrien.
Simone grew up on a farm in West Charleston. In 1935 she moved to Whitehouse and later Lebanon, New Jersey. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Whitehouse for 76 years.
Simone is predeceased by her husband of 54 years Clive; her sister Harriet Dean of Newport; brothers Albert, Norman, and Paul; and her dog Scotty.
NEWPORT CITY â€“ The future of Griffâ€™s Pub remains up in the air.
The city council, during a special meeting Wednesday, said it will not renew the pubâ€™s beer and wine license until after a state hearing scheduled for May 11 where the Vermont Department of Liquor Control will determine the fate of the pubâ€™s liquor license.Â
NEWPORT - The winds were cold, but the prevailing feeling was warmth among the crowd as nearly 100 people came Tuesday to celebrate the opening of oncologist Dr. Leslie Lockridgeâ€™s new private practice.
Guests quickly filled the office building and, outside, lines were forming of those trying to get in. Lockridge emerged from inside to the delight of all those present. Many people were reaching out to embrace him or shake his hand.
All followed him to a grassy area behind the building.
NEWPORT - Arbor Day is as American as apple pie, but 140 years after the first official Arbor Day celebration, the importance of this holiday has spread across the world.
The idea behind planting trees is credited to J. Sterling Morton of Nebraska City, NB, who organized a tree planting event on April 10, 1872.
A reported one million trees were planted as a result of Morton's vision.
NEWPORTâ€“In just their second match this season, the North Country girls' tennis team improved to 1-1 with a 6-1 triumph over Lake Region Wednesday afternoon.
Coach Marie George, looking to get some of her younger players some guaranteed playing time, had the match kick off with the numbers one, four and five singles and number two doubles taking the courts.
In Lake Region's only win on the day, Kelly LeBlanc bested Rhiannon Rosamillia in number one singles action when after splitting the first two sets 6-4, 4-6, she won 11-9 in the race to ten tie breaker.
