North Country Explodes for Sixteen Runs against Redhawks

May 15, 2012

NEWPORT–This one was not even close.
The Falcons scored sixteen runs on fourteen hits, six walks, two hit-by-ptches and eight wild pitches, defeating CVU 16-0.
"This was a big win. I feel it got our confidence up. Getting hits and laying down the bunts when I asked them to was key," said coach Leslie Dunn. "Defensively we didn't make any mistakes and we looked really good."
North Country got off to an interesting start, as Maddie Mosher scored the game's first run without the benefit of a hit.

Lake Region Loses Nine Inning Affair to Peoples 7-4

May 13, 2012

ORLEANS–The Lake Region softball team rallied in the first to tie the game, the bottom of the sixth, which eventually forced extra innings, the eighth to push the game to the ninth, but in the bottom of the ninth they could not come up with enough runs to force a tenth as they lost a well played game to the Peoples Academy Wolves on Prom Saturday.
"We kept coming back and coming back. Even though we lost, I think it bodes well for us," coach Matt Tinker said after the game.
The Lady Rangers battled all game long, and it started in the first.

North Country Wins Again, Defeat Highlanders and Tigers

May 13, 2012

NEWPORT/MIDDLEBURY–If you looked at all of the records of the spring teams from North Country, the one that stands out is that of the Falcons boys' tennis crew.
The boys have not lost a match in over a month, currently have a 6-1-1 record and are ranked in the top third of all Division I teams.
"The team likens itself to a junk yard dog," said coach Gary Atchinson. "We have no real big shotmakers. We work our points and I would say we are a real lunch pail, blue collar team."
Starting the weekend at 4-1-1, the boys won back-to-back matches on Friday and Saturday to improve their record.
