JOBS! JOBS! JOBS!

November 12, 2012

NEWPORT CITY – Sometimes obtaining a job in this tough market is about getting the right employee and employer together. Friday, Creative Workforce Solutions (CWS) held a job fair at the Emory Hebard State Office Building to do just that.
Twenty hiring managers with about 170 open positions attended the job fair, as did many area job seekers. CWS targeted all job applicants, not just clients of the organization. For some, the job fair was a success and some employers hired workers on the spot.

November 11, 2012

NEWPORT CITY – Veteran’s Day marks the signing of the Armistice and the end of World War I. The event took place Nov. 11, 1918. Yesterday, area residents remembered the day and the men and women who served in all wars with a program at the Newport Municipal Building.
Newport City Mayor Paul Monette expressed his gratitude to all veterans. He said he is blessed to be an American citizen. To be free in the United States is an honor and a privilege, Monette said.
“Freedom isn’t free,” said Monette. “You all answered the call to protect our freedom.”

November 11, 2012

DERBY - The Derby Planning Commission wants the town polled on how residents feel about wind projects. The commission has recommended the select board conduct a non-binding referendum during Town Meeting 2013.
Planners voted unanimously on the recommendation at their Oct. 22 meeting and then discussed the energy section of the town plan at their Nov. 5 meeting. About a dozen people attended the Nov. 5 meeting including Dave Hallquist, the CEO of Vermont Electric Cooperative (VEC).
