The Horseman and the Chess Player

July 9, 2012

NEWPORT, VT - Ron Kubica and Sergey Devitskiy bring truly diverse backgrounds to their shared love: treating patients in the rural Northeast Kingdom.
Ron Kubica, MD, put himself through college as a silversmith.
He grew up in New Mexico, and as a young doctor he spent several years treating Navajo and Hopi families and later the Cherokee in Oklahoma in the Indian Health Service.
And if you want to know anything about horses, Ron's the man to ask.

July 8, 2012

DERBY LINE – Raw village sewage has flowed into a Derby Line home on Caswell Avenue on at least two occasions within about a week’s time.

She said when her basement filled up with sewage she didn’t know where it was coming from, so she called the plumber. The next time the plumber showed up, he suggested she call the village.

17-U Derby Swishers Take 1st in VT B Div., Then Win in Maine

July 8, 2012

Many thanks goes to Rick and Laurie Roberge for coaching and supporting this team to be able to play in Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine tournaments this year. The team took 1st place in the VT State 17-U AAU B Division Tournament and finished their season by winning all 4 games in Saco, Maine. Traveling out of state to play tournaments brings players to next level of competition, and to win in Maine was a huge success. Awesome job to the players and the coach.

More Wind Woes for Derby

July 5, 2012

DERBY - Just as the controversy on wind turbines in Derby was simmering down, a new proposal for a turbine has re-ignited the debate, but at a smaller scale. The Derby Planning Commission heard from a group of residents and a wind developer Monday who brought up many of the same arguments the town heard before, even though the new proposal is for a smaller turbine.
A Derby resident wants to put a small turbine on her property but a nearby neighbor and others are not happy.
