NEWPORT, VT - Despite inclement weather, an appreciative group turned out at the American Legion Friday night to give Tod Pronto and Deveney Choquette, former morning show hosts on the MOO92 radio station, a last hurrah.
Subway provided sandwiches and cookies, while Steve McManus and his daughter DJ’ed the event.
NEWPORT, VT - A 2002 North Country High School graduate and film director, Michael Tyburski, had his most recent short film, "Palimpsest," selected for the 2013 Sundance Film Festival, which takes place later this month in Park City, Utah.
NEWPORT, VT - Scott Britch and his son Justin call it a day of ice fishing on South Bay on Lake Memphremagog. Scott said he started fishing when he was five years old – over 40 years ago.Â
"My grandfather use to fish off the Long Bridge," he recalls.Â
The pair are fishing for perch and at some point during the season will fish for Northern Pike.Â
Ice conditions were not as good Saturday as they were three weeks ago, according to Scott, "There was 1 1/2 inches of black ice. It was better than it is now. There's 4 inches of ice now, but it's bad, white ice, it's not safe."Â
JAY–If ever there was a contest where the officials dictated the pace of the game, it was the North Country-South Burlington hockey struggle on Saturday night at the Ice Haus.
While the Rebels won the game 5-2, the scoring was not the story of the game, it was the men in black white who were there to “officiate.”
Twenty-one total penalties were called, including 12 on the Falcons alone, and many of the calls made were either inaccurate or of a phantom nature, completely eliminating the possibility of any flow or continuity in the game.
NEWPORT–After a high scoring affair that saw St. Johnsbury defeat North Country 101-75 Thursday night, the Falcons were back on the court on Saturday afternoon, taking on the Essex Hornets.
Things did not go much better for the hometown team in this one either as they fell 85-67.
While they did not get the win, the boys did not shy away from their opponent, showing great fortitude in the second half as they tried to rally back into the game.
STOWE–Finally, after years of being on the losing end of things, the North Country girl's hockey team picked up a win against Stowe, defeating the Raiders 2-0.
The score could have been much higher, but Stowe's netminder Danielle Mayo was a rock in the nets, stopping sixteen shots in just the first period alone.
"We had a good first period, but Mayo is a tough goalie to beat," said coach Claude Paul.
Mayo stood tall until the third period, when the Falcons were finally able to get a pair past her.
