Walmart, VTrans Reach Traffic Mitigation Agreement

The Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTrans) and the developer of the proposed Derby Walmart supercenter have reached an agreement on mitigating the traffic increases expected once the store is built.

UCA Crusaders Fall to Mid-Vermont Eagles 4-2

NEWPORT–The UCA Crusaders boys team was in action on Monday afternoon, playing host to the Mid-Vermont Eagles at Gardner Park.
While the Crusaders showed improvement from their first match with Richford, it would be the Eagles flying a little higher, rallying back from a 2-0 hole in the second half to with the contest 4-2.

Yep, that's right, the North Country Falcons football team took their two-year winless streak and kicked it straight through the uprights as they fought for, and rightly earned, a well deserved, and long time coming, 47-22 win over the Lyndon Institute Vikings on Friday night at Veteran's Field.

ORLEANS-Tyrah Urie scored three goals and Jordyn Cowles stopped three shots as the Lady Rangers improved to 2-0 with their win over Enosburg on Friday afternoon.
"We got a lot of contributions from a lot of different players," said LR coach Brad Urie. "We get scoring from up and down the line-up, which only makes us stronger. Our veteran players stepped up and our new players are learning what to do in order to help us win."

Border Patrol Nab Human Smuggler, Aliens In Derby Line

U.S. Border Patrol agents nabbed two illegal immigrants and a human smuggler out of Montreal Tuesday, September 2.
Alarm signals briefly rang out on a quiet sunny morning in the small village of Derby Line. Two illegal immigrants purportedly crossed the U.S./Canadian border through a clump of trees among the homes that line the border.

Out Of The Darkness Walk Raises Thousands

NEWPORT CITY – A colorful rainbow showed its bright colors over the city Saturday morning, as if it were an omen, just a couple hours before the start of the third annual Out of the Darkness Suicide Prevention and Awareness Walk.

CVS To Stop Selling Tobacco Products

New Derby Store To Open Soon

DERBY — “This is the right thing to do,” said CVS President and CEO Larry Merlo referring to the announcement that the drug store chain will stop selling tobacco products.
The change was to take effect on October 1 but the stores have already complied.

AnC Bio Project Manager Answers Questions Raised At Hearing

Debra Bell, senior project manager with Trudell Consulting Engineers of Williston, released a statement with answers to all questions raised during the Act 250 hearing for AnC Bio. Questions regarded a number of issues, but focused mainly on safety and traffic.

Officials Urge Farmer Signup For Dairy Protection

EAST MONTPELIER (AP) — Vermont’s top agriculture officials and two congressional members are urging the state’s dairy farmers to enroll in a new price protection program that pays farmers when the difference between milk and feed prices shrink to a certain level.

United Christian Girls Fall to Rockets 5-0 in Season Opener

NEWPORT–The UCA Lady Crusaders opened play on Thursday afternoon as they hosted the Richford Rockets for a little Division IV soccer action.
While UCA gave it their all out on the field, the end result would be in favor of the visiting Rockets, as Richford came away with a win to move on 1-0 on the young season.
"The girls had an amazing effort,"said UCA coach Lyne Limoges. "We have a lot of new players and we've got our seasoned players and I think they held their own very well."
