Bolduc–– Fernand O., 95, of Cookshire, Quebec, Canada passed on the morning of January 3, 2013. There will be no calling hours. A funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held on January 12, 2013, at 11 a.m. in Cookshire, Quebec, at St. Camelia Parish, with plans to have a family gathering at the spring internment in celebration of their lives.

NEWPORT â€“ Work on installing a new cable for improvements in telecommunications is currently underway in Newport. The fiber optic cable is capable of rapidly increasing speed and access to the Internet.
"It is critical for Vermont's telecommunication system,â€ť said Caro Thompson with the Vermont Telecommunications Authority (VTA).
This upgrade will help with the major expansion coming into the area and serve the Newport Airport.
DERBY â€“ Gov. Peter Shumlin will make an announcement regarding area development Tuesday, Jan. 15, and speculation is running rampant that the subject will be Walmart. Shumlin will be in town next week and will speak at The Tavern on US 5 in Derby, across the road from the entrance to a proposed Walmart Super Center. The governor's office is being evasive as to the content of the announcement.

NEWPORT CITY â€“ A Newport City man who burglarized a downtown business will serve two concurrent 98-days to six year sentences for his crime, concurrent with an existing sentence. Christopher Roupe, 24, also agreed to pay restitution to the tune of $1,000 but does not currently have the money.
Last Wednesday, Roupe entered a plea of guilty to two charges of burglary.
Dec. 18, 2011, Frank Richardi, owner the Lago Tratoria Restaurant, reported a theft from his business on Main Street in Newport City.
NEWPORT CITY â€“ Federal authorizes have charged John Kuhl with receipt of child pornography. Kuhl allegedly received the images through a cell phone and its national network, which is governed by the FCC.
Kuhl, the former Newport City Dockmaster, is set to go on trial this week for child molestation. In Orleans District Court, he faces three counts of lewd and lascivious conduct with children and four counts of distributing indecent material to children.
NEWPORT, VT - Despite inclement weather, an appreciative group turned out at the American Legion Friday night to give Tod Pronto and Deveney Choquette, former morning show hosts on the MOO92 radio station, a last hurrah.
