DERBY, VT/STANSTEAD QC. - Mayor Philippe Dutil of Stanstead, Quebec, says he would shut off the water valves to Beebe Plains, VT, if the Town of Derby supports the proposed Derby Line Wind Project.
The Canadians control the water that serves Beebe, a village in the Town of Derby, near the Canadian-U.S. border.
ORLEANS â€“ PiĂ±atas, the colorful papier-mĂ˘chĂ© containers, often used in Mexican celebrations, will soon adorn Habaneroâ€™s Mexican Grill in Newport City. Fourteen Lake Region Union High School students made the piĂ±atas over the past couple of weeks. The piĂ±atas come just in time for Cinco de Mayo, a day during which Americans and Mexicans celebrate Mexican heritage and pride, and to commemorate the Mexican victory over the French military during the Battle of Puebla.
â€śOur Spanish class really wanted to do something hands on,â€ť explained Lake Region Spanish teacher Katie Kaskey.
JAY, VT - An early morning residential fire in Jay was apparently set to cover up a burglary, according to a report by the Vermont State Police.
The Jay Fire Department responded to the fire on VT RT 242 in Jay around 5:40 AM Monday. The residence is a rental property and no one was home at the time.
The owner of the building had put the fire out before the fire department arrived, however the fire flared up again once the building was ventilated. The fire department extinguished the blaze.
Fire damage was minimal and no injuries were reported.
Hunt–– Major Mitchell J., 93, died March 30, 2012 at his home in Willow Grove, Pennsylvania. He is to be buried during the summer with his first wife, Marjorie, in the Nelson family plot in Woodstock, VT. The full obituary is also available at wetzelandson.com.

NEWPORT â€“ The state is attempting to block testimony, evidence and witnesses that the Lowell protesters want to use as part of their defense at trial. The motion was filed Friday by Deputy Stateâ€™s Attorney Sarah Baker just prior to a status conference.
Judge Robert Gerety Jr. and defense Attorney Kristina Michelsen both said they did not have enough time to review the motion prior to the status conference as they had just received it minutes before.
NEWPORT â€“ Griffâ€™s Pub announced on Facebook that it is closing its doors on Main Street in Newport Monday at midnight.
The Newport City Council did not renew the pubâ€™s beer and wine license, which expires May 1.
Recent allegations of criminal activities inside the bar have led to charges and an investigation by the Vermont Department of Liquor Control. A woman alleges that she was raped in the bathroom of the bar and now a young man is facing charges in criminal court.
NEWPORT, VT - The audience got a double bill Sunday with musicals based on the past and the present.
North Country Union High School's Colton White, as Bill Gates, performed in "iMusical," a piece dedicated to the late Steve Jobs of Apple Computer. North Country students Chase Gosselin and Bailey Walker co-wrote the piece.
Steven Bellavance and Gabby Cogan were the lead characters in this weekend's performance of "Romeo and Juliet: Six very busy days."
Teacher Robert Wing wrote the short comedy skit version of Shakespeare's tragic love story.
