Shooting a score of 76 were the teams of Marcy Mastin and Kim Haley of Orleans Country Club and Barb Shiffler and Carla Desnoyers of Williston and Champlain. Horace Archer, PGA pro on Thursday, July 21st at Orleans Country Club, declared the two teams co-winners of the tournament. The event was the Ladies Invitational Summer Medley, which attracted golfers from this area and other parts of Vermont. The format consisted of six holes each of Best Ball, Scramble, and Scotch Ball. Net winners were Irene Farrar and Judy Martel of Orleans coming in with a 60.

Maxwell–– Lawrence E., 78, formerly of Lake Placid, New York, died on July 8, 2011, at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake, New York with his son by his side. NEWPORTâ€“The Junior Babe Ruth Championship of Orleans County was on the line Tuesday night as the North Country Athletics squared off against Lake Region at North Country Union High School.
On a warm and dusty field, Lake Region was able to overcome a two run deficit in the final inning of the contest to get the 7-5 come from behind win.
"I was a little nervous with my guys to be honest with you, but those guys, I was very proud of them, they worked hard till the end and never gave up," said LR Coach Matt Ladd on his team's 7th inning performance.
DERBY â€“ The Derby Planning Commission is currently dealing with a proposed Public Service Board (PSB) application for the Vermont Electric Company (VELCO) to put a radio transmission tower on the property of Jim and Debbie Brown in Derby.
Once the application goes before the PSB, the PSB has sole jurisdiction over the project under 30 VSA Sec. 248A and VELCO does not need a zoning permit or any other municipal or state permit. Until then, the project may be subject to Derby bylaws for conditional use and site plan review.

Lee M. Hydeman, noted Washington D.C. aviation attorney, died at his home in Sarasota, FL on July 17, 2011. He had cancer.
