If you have driven by the NCUHS Varsity soccer field recently, you may have seen the new soccer dug-outs! The previous shelters had served their purpose well, and after almost 20 years the time had come to replace them. Rather than spend money on dug-outs of the same collapsible design, the decision was made to put the same money into permanent sheds. Gone are the days are setting up and breaking down the old structures, while the safety component of not having to move the solid but very heavy roof, will be well appreciated.
BARRE–The Lake Region Rangers girls Babe Ruth softball squad improved their summer record to 3-0 Wednesday, with a drizzly 12-6 victory over Barre.
Played in a constant mild rain, the Rangers jumped out to an early 8-3 lead. They would maintain that lead before the game was eventually called due to field conditions after five innings of play.
Hannah Leroux, Michelle Thibeault, and Whitney Poginy had two hits apiece for LR, while Alyssa Royer swiped a pair of bases and scored three times.
Thibeault picked up the win on the bump, allowing just three hits while striking out five.
The Lake Region Softball team was honored with three selections to the Mountain League’s first team, two selections to the second team, and one for the honorable mention team.
Junior Callie-Rae Cashin and seniors Paige Wells, and Danika Gallup were selected to the first team. Cashin in the outfield, Wells as a 2nd baseman, and Gallup at the designated hitter position.

MONTREAL–After two complete innings of play it looked like Orleans Red Sox from Ontario was going to run away with the championship game as they had amounted a 14-3 lead over the North Country Heat from Vermont. However, displaying an excellent example of a "never say die" spirit, the North Country Heat began there comeback. In the third inning the Heat would score ten runs and then in the fourth inning they would go onto score another seven more runs to take a 20 - 14 lead that they would never relinquish.
Junior camp 2011 has been a great way to kick off the summer this year! The main goal of the junior camp is to introduce the kids to the game of golf without the pressure of walking on the course as a first timer. Our main goal as instructors is to make sure the kids are having fun while working on their swing. Being a product of the junior camp myself, it really feels great to be able to give back to the game what it gave me as a junior golfer.
NEWPORT–North Country Athletics got back to .500 with an 11-4 victory over Lake Region 1. The first five NC batters all reached base and then came around to score ßand the Athletics never looked back..
LR 1 made an attempt to get back into the game in the sixth inning, plating three runs in their half, but with one out reliever Shane Goodell came in to promptly retire the next two batters.
