Crowd Confronts Hospital Board Over Lockridge Firing

NEWPORT, VT - Over 250 people crowded into the Newport Municipal Building last night interrogate the hospital board of directors over the dismissal of Dr. Leslie Lockridge.
The hospital's CEO, Claudio Fort, addresses the crowd in what promised to be a two-hour discussion moderated by hospital board member Kathy Austin.
When Dr. Lockridge appeared, he was met with hugs and cheers.

NCUHS Seeks “High Road” With Track

NEWPORT CITY – North Country Union High School teacher and track coach Gary Johnson had his say about the newly refurbished track at Tuesday night’s full board meeting.
Last year the school board agreed to refurbish the track providing the project used no taxpayer dollars. Johnson made a commitment to head up the fundraising efforts and, to date, he has raised about $88,000. Later in the year, the board agreed to start the project even though there wasn’t enough money.

ENOSBURG, VT - An Enosburg, VT, woman is sick, suffering from formaldehyde poisoning, and she says the source is the neighboring farm.
Amy Cochran of Enosburg is a retired science teacher and former farmer herself. Her neighbor has a large farm with approximately 1,200 cattle. According to Cochran, the neighbor uses formaldehyde regularly on the farm.
Formaldehyde is used by many farmers throughout the state to treat hairy wart syndrome, an infection cows get on their hooves.

Barton elects new board members in unprecedented special election

BARTON, VT - Tuesday, Barton Town voted two new members to its select board in a special election. Two of the three board seats were left empty by resignations, leaving the town without a functioning board since the beginning of December. With the seats filled by the end of Tuesday night, the new board held its first meeting last night.

North Country Hospital Holds Public Meeting Wednesday

NEWPORT - "I'm super disappointed with North Country Hospital. They never even talked with the patients." This was the opening remark by Gabbie Bolton concerning the decision by North Country Hospital to replace Dr. Leslie Lockridge, the oncologist, with two part-time Dartmouth-Hitchcock oncologists working two days a week.

Golden Globe Winner Is Proud to be a Vermonter

LOS ANGELES - With a Golden Globe award in hand, Vermonter Julie Frost is still glowing from the experience of being on the same stage that has seen the best and brightest in film and television.
Frost, originally from Tulsa, OK, moved to New Haven, VT, when she was a baby and considers herself a Vermonter.
Frost won the award for Best Original Song, “Masterpiece,” which she co-wrote with Madonna and Jimmy Harry for Madonna’s film “W.E.” and which will be on Madonna's upcoming album.

New Hangar Completed - More to Come

COVENTRY - Improvements to the Newport Airport have begun. A new hangar was just built and completed this week and it will accommodate a second homeowner who skis frequently in the area.
There are plans to build a “condo hangar” that would accommodate approximately 16 aircraft. The construction may begin as early as spring.
