DERBY - Supporters "barked" 31,105 times!
Derby has come out on top, winning $25,000 for a dog park in the national Pet Safe â€śBark for Your Parkâ€ť contest.
Derby was running neck and neck with Mountain House, California, throughout the competition. When the leader board went dark a week ago, Derby was trailing by more than 1,000 votes. But dog park enthusiasts, led by Ann and Bob Kelley and their daughter Allison, worked nonstop to encourage people to vote.
NORTH TROY â€” Two Kingdom residents died in a car crash yesterday morning. Edmund Moran, 82, and Margaret Moran, 76, both of Jay, died as the result of a two-vehicle accident on RT 105 in North Troy.
Alexis Gabree, 26, of St. Albans, was driving a 1997 Mercury Mountaineer north on Route 105 when her vehicle apparently crossed the center line and hit an oncoming 2007 Honda Civic operated by Edmund Moran.
NEWPORTâ€“The North Country Heat Invitational Baseball Tournament took place this weekend at Gardner Park and the home team did not disapoint, going 4-0 to win the event.
"The tournament went really well," said Heat Coach Mike LaCourse. "We got to see some new players that played with us that we may see next year at the high school. It was a good opportunity for the players to be in different roles and in a different environment."
NEWPORT - Thought traffic could not get any worse in Newport? Well, Thursday afternoon a bizarre course of events made traffic far, far worse. In a bit of redirection that would make David Copperfield proud, most drivers and pedestrians alike were distracted by the sight of a 10 1/2 foot high, Case MX 255 Tractor being pursued by police officers, many of whom were on foot.
BARTON - The Orleans County Fairgrounds were vandalized during the overnight hours Wednesday. The vandals poured buckets of paint on the floors, smashed various structures, emptied several fire extinguishers, and painted profanity on several walls, inside and out. The profanity consisted of vulgar language and some racist slurs.
The North Country 15-U Heat will be hosting two teams this weekend for their summer baseball invitational tournament. The team will be looking to rebound from last yearâ€™s tourney in which they bowed out in the semi-finals.
All games will be played at Gardner Park starting at 10:00 on Saturday morning and going through until Sunday evening.
There will also be a home run derby Saturday evening at 7:00.
DERBYâ€“The staff at IROC is getting ready for Saturday's 5th Annual Kingdom Triathlon and Seymour Swim.
"We are expecting around one-hundred and fifty people this year," said Sue Engel.
The event draws people from all over the United States and internationally as well.
Staff members spent Thursday gathering materials in preparation for Friday's jaunt around the NEK to set up for the event.
There will be an early registration and sign in at IROC Friday from 1:00-7:00 PM and the "Crazy Nuts Dinner" that evening from 6:00-9:00 PM at the Eastside Restaurant.
Archer–– Alan passed away suddenly on Saturday, July 28, 2012, at the age of 67.
