NEWPORT - Roger Pion, the man accused of smashing seven Orleans County Sheriff's cruisers demolition style with a tractor, has posted bail.
He still remains in custody, however, while he serves a couple more weeks of time on a February conviction for disorderly conduct.
Judge Robert Bent ordered Pion held on $50,000 at his Aug. 7 arraignment, but Pion's friends and family have been raising money through an online website. Pion pleaded innocent to the charges, with the judge dismissing a count of impeding a police officer.
DERBY - Derby Town Clerk and Treasurer Nicole Daigle announced Monday that she is not yet ready to resign from her positions even though she has already started a new job.
Daigle had been on the agenda to offer her resignation Monday, when the board would have been faced with appointing an interim clerk and treasurer until the March Town Meeting. Later, Daigle asked to be removed from the agenda, but the request came late and the item remained.
NEWPORT CITY – Rep. Duncan Kilmartin of Newport City vows, if re-elected, to put together a coalition of legislators to develop monetary resources to pay off IROC’s capital debt.

DERBY–Some athletes slow up their pace in the off-season. Some join travel teams and play sporadically, maybe twice a month with a few practices thrown in to keep the players sharp.
Members of the North Country Wrestling Club (North Country Wrestling Team during the season, as the club got back its' varsity status last season) prefer to take a different approach.
Instead of less, they prefer more.
As in five days a week, and we are more than three months away from wrestling season and over a month away from the next tournament on the schedule.
