Early Goal Sinks Rangers

FAIRFAX – The Lady Rangers of Lake Region faced off against a tough BFA-Fairfax Bullets team Wednesday afternoon, and came away empty handed with a 1-0 loss. An early first half score by the Bullets doomed with Rangers, who never were able to mount much of a charge. Jordyn Cowles started in goal for Lake Region and made 12 saves. Coach Brad Urie said that his team, “never responded after trailing early.”

Richford Shuts-out Crusaders 2-0

COVENTRY – The UCA Lady Crusaders faced off against the Richford Rockets Wednesday afternoon in a game that was moved to the Coventry Graded School due to unplayable field conditions at Gardner Park. UCA battled hard, but lost by a score of 2-0. Richford got early first half goals by Joslynn Bessette and Krista Murphy. Goalie Sydney Whipple made 17 saves in a losing effort.

Bly–– Thelma M., 85, of Newport, VT, passed away October 19, 2011 in Newport. A graveside service will be held on Friday, October 21, 2011 at 3 p.m. at the Hillside Cemetery in East Charleston. Crusaders Fall to Canaan 2-0

CANAAN– The UCA Crusaders fell to Canaan by the score of 2-0 on Tuesday.
“We had a great game in comparison to the last couple of games where we were ridden with injuries. We played well as a team making opportunity after opportunity on offense in both halves,” said Coach DeLaBruere.
Ji Kim Dale Martell, and Isaac LaFoe had numerous shots on Canaan's keeper, but were unable to find the back of the net.
Chris DeLaBruere had another quality night defending the net for UCA where he continues to be a formidable presence. UCA plays their last game of the season in Richford Thursday at 4pm.

Brown’s 2 Goals Propels Chargers to Victory

CRAFTSBURY – The Craftsbury Academy Lady Chargers took another step towards securing a potential home playoff game with a 3-2 win Tuesday afternoon against the Whitcomb Hornets. Craftsbury, winners of 3 in a row and 4 out of their last 6, battled Whitcomb to a scoreless draw through the first half. But, Meghan Brown put the Chargers on top after converting a Sarah Dunbar pass for a goal early in the 2nd half. After Whitcomb tied the game at 1, Brown scored her 2nd of the game, thanks to an assist by Meghan Pennock to put the Blue and White of Craftsbury back on top.

Rangers Defeat Indians, Move Back to .500

DANVILLE – The Lake Region Rangers traveled to Danville Tuesday afternoon to face off against a tough Indians squad and came away with a 2-1 victory. Assistant Coach Dan Cummings took over the Head Coaching duties, because Coach Tom Evans was out due to his 2-game suspension. Tony Stuart and Shaquille Urie found the back of the net for the Blue and White. When contacted by telephone Coach Evans said that he was “pleased with the way his team responded and he was glad they were able to stay focused.”

Falcons Rally to Edge Out Spaulding 2-1

NEWPORT–After going down 1-0 in the first half, the North Country girls soccer team rallied and came back to win their ninth game of the season 2-1.
"This (Spaulding) is a quality team out there. They have just two losses on the year and this (win) puts us closer to getting a home seed and that is what we are hoping for," said Coach Joe Batista.

Lowell Wind Opponents Come Back Swinging

LOWELL, VT - The law firm of Hershenson, Carter, Scott and McGee, P.C., of Norwich, VT, has plunged into the Lowell Mountain wind project fray. The firm entered its appearance on behalf of Donald and Shirley Nelson, defendants in an Emergency Restraining Order petition filed by Green Mountain Power.
On behalf of its clients, the firm filed a Defendant's Emergency Motion to Dissolve TRO (temporary restraining order) and Request for Expedited Hearing on the Emergency Basis, an Answer to Plaintiff's (GMP's) Complaint, and has prepared a counterclaim.

North Country Hospital Holds 25th Annual Awards Banquet

NEWPORT, VT - When Sarah Hardin was hired as a physical therapist at North Country Hospital, she knew she’d landed a great job, but little did she know that being hired would send her on a direct course to meet her future husband, Chad Hardin. But that is just what happened.
For that matter, she helped orient him to the hospital when he arrived.
Although Chad no longer works at North Country, Sarah and Chad’s love lives on.
“He is the love of my life,” Sarah told her colleagues at North Country’s 25th Annual Awards Banquet held at the Elks Lodge in Derby on October 15.

Tivoly Workers Join Forces to Aid Storm Victims

DERBY LINE – On a warm day last month, Dave and Kelley Robinson were one of a handful of old car enthusiasts who went on a cruise throughout the state. As they entered the Hartford area, the Robinsons saw the devastation caused by Tropical Storm Irene, which had hit the region a week earlier. A little further in town, the couple saw young children searching the fields for their lost toys. 
“That hurt,” said Dave Robinson. “It reminded me of things back in the 1950s. A lot of kids grew up around here with nothing.”
