Mellissa M. Tinker, 39, died suddenly Saturday, October 22, 2011, in Newport. She was born in Worcester, MA on May 8, 1972, the daughter of Harry Burnham and Phyllis "Penny"(Joyner) Horner.
She and her family moved to Albany in her early years where she was raised. She attended Lake Region Union High School and had taken several college courses.

Falcons Finish off Milton 30-25, Move To 9-0 Record

MILTON-The North Country Falcons jumped all over the Milton Yellow Jackets 22-0 in the first stanza before settling in to a tight 30-25 victory. The triumph clinches the number one seed in Division Two football and produced the first undefeated regular season in the 46 years of North Country football.

North Country Season Ends in 3-0 Loss to MVU

SWANTON–The Falcons put it all on the line on Friday afternoon against the Missisquoi Thunderbirds, but MVU was just too good, topping North Country 3-0.
"They had the game of their life," said Coach Bouchard, "They knew it could potentially be their last game, so they gave it their all."
Despite losing by a larger margin than in their previous bout with MVU, North Country played a much better game. They were significantly more aggressive, and had several forays into T-Bird territory, compared to their limited time spent in the blue and white's end the first time out.

Late Goal Stuns Rangers, Fall to Raiders 1-0

EAST MONTPELIER – The 7 seed Lake Region Rangers traveled to face off against the 2 seed U-32 Raiders in the Quarterfinals of the Division 2 playoffs Saturday afternoon. After a physical, well fought game, the Raiders eventually prevailed with a goal in the 73rd minute.
After being bounced in the first round of the playoffs last year, the Rangers were out to prove that they belong at a higher division of competition.
The game started off with a bang as U32’s Zach Elmore and Cole Cacico sliced through the Rangers’ D, with Elmore missing the target on the shot attempt.

Early Goal Trouble for Lady Rangers, Lose to Hurricanes 1-0

HARTFORD – The Lady Rangers traveled to Hartford Friday afternoon to face off against the #2 seed Hurricanes, they battled hard, but in the end it wasn’t enough as they fell 1-0.
The game started off rough as a communication breakdown inside the Ranger’s 18 was cleaned up by Mariah Palmer, putting her team on top 1-0, just 90 seconds into the contest.
On the ensuing kick-off however, the Rangers went up the field with Tyrah Urie feeding Caitlyn Bernier, for what was thought to be the tying goal. But, the goal was waived off because of an offside call.

Dividing Up the State: Legislators Voice Concerns

ORLEANS - If many people care about the Vermont House Seat reapportionment in the state, it wasn’t evident at a hearing conducted by the House Committee on Government Operations. The hearing, held at Lake Region Union High School Wednesday evening, only drew about 15 local residents, most of whom were politicians or connected to politics.

Burke Inaugurates New Wind Turbine Smaller, cheaper, less controversial

EAST BURKE, VT - On the same day that two other local controversial wind projects were front and center in the media statewide, a small ceremony marked the installation of a 123-foot tall wind turbine at the top of Burke Mountain.
There were no protesters, although a Caledonia County Sheriff’s Deputy was on the scene. About 25 people made up the crowd and the Tamarack Grill from Burke served hot cocoa, brownies and cookies.
