Gosselin Development Receives Permit for Sewer Line

DERBY–– The Gosselin development project received an Act 250 Land Use permit for a sewer line immediately after the City of Newport withdrew its request for party status and a hearing. The city received a letter from the Village of Derby Center requesting a sewer service area for the Gosselin development. The Newport City Council approved the sewer service and withdrew the city’s  request for an Act 250 hearing on the project.

Owners Of Unlicensed Dogs To Be Hounded Brighton Sends In The Law

BRIGHTON- Town Clerk Teresa Potwin confirmed Tuesday evening that thirty eight dogs in town have not been licensed.  Potwin advised the select board at their meeting she has sent letters and even follow up telephone calls to no avail.

Red Reynolds Shoots a 70 at NCC to Match His Age

August 5, 2014

Long time golfer Red Reynolds shot a 70 to match his age earlier this summer at the Newport Country Club.
Said Reynolds, “It was a perfect scorecard with 16 pars and 2 birdies."
Red is one of Orleans CC's most active members.
He plays several times a week, spends a lot of time working on his game, and is involved with the club’s junior members as well.
Red is the 2012 OCC Senior Club Champion.

LR School Board Begins Preperation for FY ‘15

BARTON- It’s never too early to start budgeting for FY '15 and the Lake Region Union High School board is doing just that. 

Finance chair Mike Sanville noted not only are they starting early, but the annual meeting has been moved from January to February giving the board and administration more time to compose a budget.  Board chair Dave Blodgett suggested Sanville explain the process to the new board members.

International Vocalist to Preform in Newport

August 5, 2014

International Jazz vocalist Eileen Kennedy will perform at St Mark’s Church on Second Street in Newport on August 16. She will be accompanied by well-known artist Mark Violette on the piano. The performance, called Some Enchanted Evening, is part of the Now Playing Newport music series managed and produced by Jim McKimm. Kennedy preformed at the Gateway Center in Newport last summer to a sold out crowd.

Sparks Fly Over Sick Time for Non-Union Employees

NEWPORT CITY – Non-union city employees may now accrue as much as six hours of paid sick time a month, up to nine days per year, which is in line with what the public works department employees have. Up until now non-union employees had four hours of sick time.
In 1998, the public works department employees and non-union employees had their sick time reduce from eight days to four days. During last contract negotiations, public works department employees got two of their hours back.

NEWPORT CITY – There is a saying if you love something, set it free. If it returns, it is yours for keeps. That is certainly the case for Steve Restelli and Carmen of Barre.
Carmen is Restelli’s 1961, 356-B Carmen Hardtop Sports Coupe Porsche displayed during the Cars of Yesteryear's (COY) 31st annual show at North Country Union High School Sunday. Restelli, like many owners of classic cars, has a story to tell. Restelli purchased the car twice and sold it once. But, let’s start from the beginning.
