Falcons Catch Bad Break Early as Vergennes Picks up Win

NEWPORT-North Country softball team lost their starting pitcher Taylor Blake after two and two-thirds innings due to injury, and despite the gutsy performance of reliever Maddie Mosher, Vergennes was able to to take advantage of the situation, and came away with a 26-2 win in five innings on Thursday.

North Country Girls Take First, Boys Second

NEWPORT–The North Country Falcons hosted their second of two track meets on Wednesday afternoon, welcoming in Lake Region, Oxbow, MVU, Enosburg and BFA Fairfax.
It ended up being a great day for the NCU girls and pretty good day for the boys, as the Falcon girls won the women's meet, and the boys took second.
Oxbow's boys team edged out North Country by six points to grab first place.
Lake Region's squads both took home third place finishes.

Big Four Come Through Again as North Country Goes Over U-32

NEWPORT–On the one of the few warm days that we have had this spring, the North Country Falcons’ boys tennis team welcomed the U-32 Raiders to Prouty Beach for a late-week tennis match.
After all was said and done, it would be the Falcons big four singles players getting the job done, as North Country walked away with a 4-3 win.

North Country Falcons Girls Battle at VT National

SOUTH BURLINGTON-The NCU varsity girls golf team traveled across the state on Wednesday to compete at the Vermont National Golf Club against a field of Metro League, Division I teams.
The team was represented by freshman Katie Goulet (52), junior Tanika Demers (66) and Captain Paige Gagnon (64).
While everyone agreed that they could have scored better, they all enjoyed a beautiful day on the links.
Paige had, except for one hole, long straight drives and reinforces Tanika’s quote of “this is a game of positivity, otherwise you will do worse.”

Messier No-Hits Spartans in Big Lake Region Victory

ORLEANS–The Lake Region baseball Rangers played host to the Winooski Spartans on Tuesday, and what a day it turned out to be for Matt Messier, as the tall junior no-hit the Spartans, striking out 15 batters while walking just one as Lake Region won 10-0.
"I just went out and tried to throw strikes every inning, and my arm started to loosen up as the game went on. The last inning felt especially good," Messier said after the game.

DeLaBruere Signs With New Hampshire Monarchs’ EHL Team

NEWPORT–Last week, North Country senior Ross DeLaBruere took the next step in his hockey career by signing a contract to play with New Hampshire Junior Monarchs of the Eastern Hockey League during the 2014-2015 hockey season.
Ryan Frew, the Monarchs' head coach and general manager who saw Ross and Ryan Paul skate with his program back in March, and again in April at showcase in Pittsburgh where he coached the pair, is delighted with the signing.

Lake Region Takes 2nd, North Country 3rd at NC Track Meet

NEWPORT–The North Country track and field team hosted their first meet of the year on Wednesday with a total of five teams in action.
Champlain Valley Union took home first place with a combined score 514.5 points, followed by Lake Region with 255.5 points, North Country with 216 points, Oxbow with113.5 points and Missisquoi Valley Union with 67 points.

North Country Picks Up Third Loss Against Middlebury

NEWPORT-The North Country boys tennis team returned to action on Monday after their spring break.
Their opponent on this lightly overcast day was the Middlebury Tigers, and it was the visiting squad coming up with the 4-3 win to improve to 1-1 on the year.
The play on Monday was actually quite even, but having to forfeit the number two doubles match is what did the Falcons in on this day, as it was the deciding factor in the match.

Fairfax Scores Early and Often, Tops Lake Region 27-4

ORLEANS–BFA Fairfax scored twelve runs in the top of the first inning, and that was more then enough as the Lady Bullets defeated the Lady Rangers 27-4.
"It was a miserable, miserable, miserable day," said LR coach Matt Tinker. "We need to get mentally tougher when we are in the middle of a bad inning, and get of quicker than we are. Call me crazy, but I think we did do some good things against the best pitcher we are going to face all year, and I am looking forward to seeing them again when the weather is warmer."

Rangers Fall to BFA Fairfax, North Country Games Cancelled

BFA Fairfax 15, Lake Region 2
ORLEANS-What started out as a close game ended up in a blowout, as BFA Fairfax handed Lake Region a one-sided loss on Saturday morning.
BFA scored a pair of runs in the first and the second to jump out to the 4-0 lead.
Lake Region got on the board in the fourth, but the Bullets restored the four-run advantage with a run in the top of the fifth.
That would be the end of the day for Ranger starter Matt Messier, who finished his outing striking out ten, walking three and allowing three hits.
