Provoncha and Beauregard Too Much For Winooski to Handle

ORLEANS-The Lake Region Rangers took on the Winooski Spartans on Saturday in a matinee match-up, and it would be the Rangers emerging with the 64-33 win.
Clint Provoncha and Alex Beauregard led the way with 23 points each, with Provoncha hitting 5 of 6 three’s in the win.

Opinion Piece: Can the Original Six Do it?

I think the picture says it all. If you are a fan of the North Country girl's hockey program, you must be asking, can this crew do what they were expected to in the Metro?
Well...
It is up to them. If all of the pieces slide together in the correct order, then I say yes.
If not, then just remember the Falcons, because without any more players, they will not exist anymore.
Go see your favorite players in Northfield or MMU.
Maybe the move to the Metro was not the best of decisions.

Comets' Big First Quarter Sinks Falcons

NEWPORT-The BFA Comets ran up a 22-0 lead after the first quarter and never looked back as they defeated the North Country Falcons 65-33 on Friday night.
Morgan Greene and Hollie Smith each had seven points to lead the Falcons. Kim Howrigan led all scorers with 12 points.
Now 2-5, North Country will next take on Spaulding on 1-17-14.

Rebels Hold Off Boys, Girls Defeat MMU in Hockey Action.

JAY-The So. Burlington Rebels scored three goals in the first and one in the third to beat North Country 4-3 on Wednesday evening.
Matt Beachle had a hat trick, netting two in the first with the other coming on a penalty shot in the third.
The Falcons got a goal from Travis Tetreault in the second and a pair from Ryan Paul in the third, but the Beachle's penalty shot was the difference in the game.
Dana Marsh had 28 saves in the loss.
The 4-4-1 Falcon boys and 6-3 Falcon girls are now off for 10 days before returning to action on the 25th.

Falcons Fall to Defending Champs

HINESBURG-The North Country girls basketball team ran into the buzz saw that is the CVU Redhawks on Tuesday night and fell by the score of 73-20.
"When you go into these games you have to have perspective," said NCU coach Christiane Brown. "We wanted to work on some things, and we had our moments, but we also broke down and that led to points."
Unfortunately for the Falcons it was a lot of points, as CVU was ahead 45-13 after the first half, and would allow just seven more points to NCU the rest of the way.
Kelsea Cutting had 6 points for the Falcons and Hollie Smith added 4.

Heart and Hustle Not Enough, Williamstown Beats LR 58-54

ORLEANS-The Lake Region Rangers hosted the Blue Devils from Williamstown in a fight to the finish that ended with LR’s third loss of the season.
“I was very happy with our defensive effort,” said LR Coach James Ingalls of his players.

Lady Rangers Fight to the Finish in Loss to Rockets

ORLEANS–What started as a one-sided display of domination turned into a gritty battle to the finish as the Lake Region girls squared off against the Richford Rockets.
Although Lake Region would ultimately lose 48-43, their second half effort gave the fans at the Don Harter Memorial a glimpse of what this team is capable off when the chips are down and their backs are against the wall.

SO. BURLINGTON–After falling behind 2-0 in the first period, the North Country girls rallied back, scoring once in the first and twice in the second to get the win and move to 5-3 on the season.
"It was a really good game," said NCU coach Claude Paul. "Several players stepped up for us, including Mikaella (Doran) who showed us some glimpses of what she is capable of and Emilie (Paul) who played lock-down defense while covering one of their top players."

North Country’s Defense Too Much for Lyndon Institute

NEWPORT-North Country was looking for their second win against the Lyndon Institute Vikings on Saturday afternoon, and they got it, winning by the score of 41-29. For the full story, see the Express on 1-6-13.

Lakers Top Falcons 79-46

January 3, 2014

NEWPORT-With temperatures hovering near minus 15 degrees, the North Country boys basketball team ran into a hot shooting Colchester Laker squad, and came out on the tough end of a 79-46 score.
The game featured the return of Marquel Taylor-Webster to the area.
Marquel was a member of the UCA squad last season, but transferred to Colchester this school year.
He would put up 6 points in his return.
The Falcons were led by Rejean Roberge, who scored 9 points in the loss.
1-4 North Country will travel to face South Burlington on Monday. Tip-off is at 6:30.
