Essex Tops Falcon Girls in First Metro Test

December 11, 2013

Jay-The North Country girls hockey team made their Metro Division debut on Wednesday evening, taking on the Essex Hornets at the Jay Peak Ice Haus.
Unfortunately for the Falcons, things did not go as well as they would have liked, and they fell 6-0 to the Hornets.
Essex had two goals in each period while North Country struggled to get quality shots on the visitor's net.

New Coach, New Direction For Falcon Boys

NEWPORT–While a lot of the actual pieces have not changed from last season, the 2013-2014 North Country boy's basketball team will have a different feel to it as new coach Ed Duncan Jr. takes over the job from Brian Bonvechio, who stepped down after last season.
Duncan, who was at the helm of the Falcon' JV program for the last 2 years, and has coached the game for 16 total years, is ready to face the challenges of head coaching in the Metro Division.

North Country Girls Future is in Their Own Hands

NEWPORT–For the 2013-2014 North Country girl's basketball team, the future is wide open.
Only four players are returning to coach Christiane Brown's squad this year, and that means every position is up for grabs.
"Who are we... that is a great question," Brown said as our interview got underway. "We are so young and it might be a little too early for me to tell you who we are as we need to grow and develop as team before I can tell you that, but I can tell you that we are a group that is dedicated, very focused, eager to learn and so far, look to be great teammates."

Falcons Top Alexander Galt 6-4

STANSTEAD,QE-Ryan Paul scored three goals, and three other Falcons had a goal each as North Country defeated Alexander Galt in the final game of the Can-Am Classic on Saturday afternoon.
Paul had a goal in all three of the periods, while Ross DeLaBruere, Ryan O'Donell and Dawson Cote had the other three Falcon goals.

Falcons Score 6 in Win Over Greeley Rangers

STANSTEAD,QE-The North Country boys opened up their 2013-2014 hockey season with a 6-0 win over Greeley High from Cumberland, ME in the second game of the Can-Am Hockey Classic.
After a slow start, the Falcons picked up their game late in the first, as Ross DeLaBruere opened up the scoring with 5:18 left to go.
In the second, North Country kept improving, and they pumped home another three goals to make it 4-0.
Ryan Paul, Ross and Travis Tetreault had the three goals.

Falcon Girls Win Season Opener Against Stowe

December 4, 2013

JAY-The North Country girls hockey team opened up the 2013-2014 season with a 3-1 win over Stowe on Wednesday night.
After a scoreless first period, the Falcons got two goals in the final four minutes of the second, and one in the first minute of the third.
Jenna Moss and Savannah Alberghini-Giroux tallied in the second, while Whitney Bernier scored in the third.
The Falcons peppered Stowe goalie Danielle Mayo with 52 shots, as apposed to allowing just five shots to reach their goalie Mikaella Doran,

Tough Road Ahead For Falcon Hockey Girls

JAY-One year removed from coming within a goal of winning the Division II State Championship, the North Country girls hockey team finds themselves in a whole new world.
With two years of success after several trying seasons, it was deemed appropriate to move the program to Division I, a division that has seen just two teams become state champions (BFA St. Albans, Essex) since the league's inception.

Brothers in Arms; Falcon Hockey Boys Are Family

JAY-The 2013-2014 North Country boys hockey team will be a family affair as the team is loaded with four pairs of siblings.
Said captain and older brother Ryan Paul on the familial feel of the team, "It is a really good thing. The team going to be much closer with so many siblings on the team, that is just the way it is."
The Falcons are coming off of a very strong 2012-13 season where they finished 15-6-2, and made it into the semi-finals for the second straight year.
Under new coach Ryan Jacobs, North Country is looking to make it as far, or further in 2014.

Paul Saaman; A Player Without a Team to Play For

NEWPORT–When UCA announced that they would not be fielding a basketball program for the 2013-2014 season, it left multiple players without a venue to display their love of the game.
One athlete in particular was hit especially hard by the news; UCA senior Paul Saaman.
The high-flier, whose ariel assaults at the opposition's baskets have been known to leave jaws on the floor, had just endured a rough a soccer season where the team struggled to find a win, and now he was being grounded before he could take off for his final season on the hardwood.

United Christian Academy to Be Without Basketball This Season

NEWPORT–With numbers dwindling, interest waning and schedules conflicting, the United Christian Academy Crusaders will not be fielding a boy's or girl's basketball team this season.
Tony DeLaBruere, who by the end of last season was coaching both teams, expressed his feelings about his former teams not returning in 2013.
"It is too bad that they won't be able to put teams out there," DeLaBruere said on Tuesday. "We had a lot of success last year and I really feel for the kids that wanted to play, especially the seniors."
