Spaulding, DeLaBruere Lead Craftsbury in Back-to-Back Wins

January 19, 2014

CRAFTSBURY-The second half of Thursday's Craftsbury-Cabot doubleheader featured a rematch that had the potential for some fireworks.
The first time the Chargers and Huskies met there were heated words, hard fouls and an overall sense that these two teams did not like each other.
But in the end the result was the same, as Craftsbury picked up their second straight win over Cabot, this time winning 56-38.

Lady Chargers Stay Hot, Defeat Cabot and Websterville

January 19, 2014

CRAFTSBURY-I could try and spin everybody a yarn about how this game was a competitive battle between two squads looking to pick up a notch in the win column, but I am not going to.
Instead I will tell it like it is; this game was an out and out blow out win for the Lady Chargers of Craftsbury, as they defeated the Cabot Huskies 64-22 on Thursday evening.

Weekend Round-up: Paul Nets Winner, Duncan Goes Off, More

January 19, 2014

Staff Reports
No. Country 5, Rutland 4 OT
RUTLAND–Ryan Paul, on a pass from Nate Marsh, scored his second goal of the game at the 1:05 marker of overtime to give the North Country Falcons the win over the Rutland Raiders on Saturday evening.
While the win was nice, the Falcons showed the effects of having a ten day break in between games, much to the chagrin of head coach Ryan Jacobs.
"We took too may penalties, and although the penalty killers did a good job, overall we were a little rusty," Jacobs said.

Craftsbury’s Thomas Gets First Career Victory Over Twinfield

January 14, 2014

CRAFTSBURY–Janet Bohannon scored a game-high twenty-five points and Anna Strong chipped in ten to help Craftsbury coach Rick Thomas earn his first ever win against the Twinfield Lady Trojans on Monday night.
"I think the win tonight was a great example of all that our system stands for which is pressure defense, ball security, push the ball up the court and hit the open girl," Thomas said after the game. "Our defense really led to our offense and that is the guts of our system."

NEWPORT–The North Country boys basketball team put together arguably their best effort of the season, as they played a complete thirty-two minutes of basketball to pick up a 64-44 win over Missisquoi Valley Union on Saturday afternoon.
"I thought we were very aggressive today," said NCU coach Ed Duncan. "We were after every ball, every rebound and I thought we moved the ball well, we had good looks at the basket and everything was falling for us."

Lady Rangers Lose Close Contest to BFA Fairfax

January 12, 2014

FAIRFAX-The Bullets of BFA Fairfax secured a hard-fought victory against the Lake Region Rangers at home on Friday night, 49-45.
"Too many first half turnovers (16), and not aggressive enough on offense were our two biggest problems,” said LR coach Joe Houston. “We defended okay, but we threw the ball away a lot early on, and we didn't get ourselves to the foul line like we did the other night."

Opinion Piece: Can the Original Six Do it?

January 11, 2014

I think the picture says it all. If you are a fan of the North Country girl's hockey program, you must be asking, can this crew do what they were expected to in the Metro?
It is up to them. If all of the pieces slide together in the correct order, then I say yes.
If not, then just remember the Falcons, because without any more players, they will not exist anymore.
Go see your favorite players in Northfield or MMU.
Maybe the move to the Metro was not the best of decisions.
You Decide.
