Falcons Fall to MMU as Third Quarter Struggles Continue

NEWPORT–The North Country basketball boys started strong in their game against Mount Mansfield, but had a bit of trouble closing things out, and the result was a 57-40 win for the visiting Cougars on Tuesday evening.
"Defensively we played a solid game, and offensively we were more patient and took better shots," said NCU coach Ed Duncan on what he saw from his team on Tuesday.

Lady Rangers Rally Late, But Fall Short Against Yellow Jackets

ORLEANS–Despite rallying to tie the game in the third quarter, then briefly taking the lead in the fourth, the Lake Region girls basketball team suffered their second loss of the year at the hands of the Windsor Yellow Jackets on a frigid Monday evening.
"All night tonight we struggled with consistency," said LRU coach Joe Houston. "We had some runs when we did really good things then we would go back to doing things that gave them easy opportunities and easy baskets and we couldn't sustain the way we wanted to play long enough to build a lead and a cushion and get things going."

ST. ALBANS–Falcon captain Ryan Paul scored three goals, including the overtime game-winner, as the North Country boys hockey team defeat the BFA Bobwhites 4-3 on Saturday evening.
“We played very well," said NCU coach Ryan Jacobs. "We controlled most of the game, minus the final five minutes of regulation, but overall we outplayed them."
North Country got on the board early, as Paul staked his team to the 1-0 advantage in the first.
In the second Paul scored again to push the lead to 2-0 before BFA struck to make it a one goal game.

Raiders Defeat Falcons in Season Opener

NEWPORT-The North Country girl's basketball team got their season underway at home against the U-32 Raiders on Saturday afternoon, but fell short in their quest for the win, losing 41-38 to the visitors.
"The girls showed a lot of heart out there and they made it clear that they are willing to work," said NCU coach Christiane Brown. "It is nice to see that we can run and push the ball, we just have to get some quality shots on the other end."
North Country's Kylie Jones scored 12 points and 10 assists for a double-double, while Madison Bennett also had 12 for the Raiders.

Essex Scores Twice in the 3rd to Best Falcons

Jay-After Ross DeLaBruere put North Country ahead 1-0 in the first, the Essex Hornets tied things up in the second, then popped in two more in the third to hand the Falcons their first loss of the season.
Freshman goalie Dana Marsh was outstanding for the Falcons, stopping 34 of 37 shots on the night.
Despite the loss, North Country played a very strong game, and if they continue to improve, the next time these two teams meet, the outcome could be much different.

Essex Tops Falcon Girls in First Metro Test

Jay-The North Country girls hockey team made their Metro Division debut on Wednesday evening, taking on the Essex Hornets at the Jay Peak Ice Haus.
Unfortunately for the Falcons, things did not go as well as they would have liked, and they fell 6-0 to the Hornets.
Essex had two goals in each period while North Country struggled to get quality shots on the visitor's net.

New Coach, New Direction For Falcon Boys

NEWPORT–While a lot of the actual pieces have not changed from last season, the 2013-2014 North Country boy's basketball team will have a different feel to it as new coach Ed Duncan Jr. takes over the job from Brian Bonvechio, who stepped down after last season.
Duncan, who was at the helm of the Falcon' JV program for the last 2 years, and has coached the game for 16 total years, is ready to face the challenges of head coaching in the Metro Division.

North Country Girls Future is in Their Own Hands

NEWPORT–For the 2013-2014 North Country girl's basketball team, the future is wide open.
Only four players are returning to coach Christiane Brown's squad this year, and that means every position is up for grabs.
"Who are we... that is a great question," Brown said as our interview got underway. "We are so young and it might be a little too early for me to tell you who we are as we need to grow and develop as team before I can tell you that, but I can tell you that we are a group that is dedicated, very focused, eager to learn and so far, look to be great teammates."

Falcons Top Alexander Galt 6-4

STANSTEAD,QE-Ryan Paul scored three goals, and three other Falcons had a goal each as North Country defeated Alexander Galt in the final game of the Can-Am Classic on Saturday afternoon.
Paul had a goal in all three of the periods, while Ross DeLaBruere, Ryan O'Donell and Dawson Cote had the other three Falcon goals.

Falcons Score 6 in Win Over Greeley Rangers

STANSTEAD,QE-The North Country boys opened up their 2013-2014 hockey season with a 6-0 win over Greeley High from Cumberland, ME in the second game of the Can-Am Hockey Classic.
After a slow start, the Falcons picked up their game late in the first, as Ross DeLaBruere opened up the scoring with 5:18 left to go.
In the second, North Country kept improving, and they pumped home another three goals to make it 4-0.
Ryan Paul, Ross and Travis Tetreault had the three goals.
