Three Local Players to Suit Up for Hornet Women in 2013-2014

LYNDON CENTER–The 2013-2014 Lyndon State College Women's basketball team will have three players from Orleans County on their roster when their season kicks off this Friday in Redlands, California.
Britney Geoffrey, Britni Jewer and Drew Neal will all play for coach Vinnie Maloney's squad this year, and the coach took some time out of his day to speak about the three local athletes that will be suiting up for the Hornets.

Falcons End Season With Good Showing at New England’s

MANCHESTER,NH–On Saturday, the North Country cross country Falcons sent their boy's team and Avery Ellis to the New England Interscholastic Cross Country Championships that were held at Derryfield Park.
It was the first trip to the race for all but one of the Falcons, and they came away with a great showing, a bunch of memories and some valuable experience that all but one of them will be able to implement and utilize moving forward.
"It was a great day at the races," said North Country coach Chris Shaffer. "It is a high pace course that makes you feel like you are actually running."

Glover Defeats Irasburg to Win OCSU Soccer Title

GLOVER-The Glover Eagles hosted the 2013 Orleans Central Supervisory Union Playoff tournament this year and ended the year as champions. The teams that were in the play-offs were Barton, Brownington, Coventry, Glover and Irasburg. Irasburg came in second, Barton in third, Coventry in fourth and Brownington in fifth.
The final game went into to overtime with Riley Urie scoring in double OT for Glover to win it all. Thanks for everyone who came and joined us on cold day to support our teams.

Falcons Fall Short in Quest for Finals

BURLINGTON-The North Country Falcons and Stowe Raiders took at 0-0 tie into the second half of Wednesday's Division III field hockey semi-final, and although both teams would score in the second, it would be Stowe emerging as the victor, outscoring North Country 2-1 in the game's final 30 minutes.
Stowe got up 2-0 on goals by Ricki Haab and Mariah Barrows before NCU's Alex Bussiere scored with 2:35 left in regulation to cut the lead to 2-1.

North Country Field Hockey Ready for Match With Stowe

NEWPORT–Wednesday afternoon will find the North Country field hockey Falcons in a familiar position; Heading to the University of Vermont to compete in the Division III semi-finals.
Last year, the Falcons were the underdogs, having upset second-seeded Bellows Falls on the road.
The number seven Falcons squared off against perennial powerhouse and third ranked Missisquoi Valley Union in the semi's, where they lost 2-1.
The biggest thing that North Country gained from that game, besides the experience, was a hunger for success.

THETFORD–Going into the Vermont State Cross Country Championships, the Falcons, much like every other school in attendance, were looking to have a good a showing.
Knowing that they had the potential to do some really good things, a confident North Country squad took to the trail and came away with some fantastic results.
For the Falcon boys, Sam Brunnette stayed true to form, finishing 6th in the state (4th in Division I) with a time of 17:09.4.

North Country Football Team Closes Out 2013 Campaign

NEWPORT–What has been a trying and difficult football season for the North Country Falcons came to a close on Friday night as the team fell 26-8 to the Spaulding Crimson Tide.
"This was one of those games that no matter how much preparation we did we just couldn't pull it off," said NCU coach Tim Simoneau. "We worked hard, but things didn't go our way."
Before the game got underway, the team honored their six outgoing seniors; Anthony Eldridge, Tyler Jenne, Wyatt Prue, Tyler Sanville, Troy Dane and Jason Gonyaw.

Raptors Squeak Past Lake Region 2-1

ORLEANS-In a very evenly played match, the Rivendell Raptors had a little more at the end than the home standing Lake Region Rangers as they held on for a 2-1 victory. The Raptors erased a 1-0 LRU lead by scoring twice in the last 13 minutes of regulation to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.
With a large, several-hundred strong boisterous crowd on hand to witness the quarter-final between the number 4 seed, Lake Region and the number five seed Raptors it was obvious on this chilly 42 degree day that it would be tight one.

Falcons Score Twice in Second Half, Advance to Semi-Finals

NEWPORT-North Country's field hockey team scored two goals in the second half to advance past Fair Haven in the Division III Quarter-finals by the score of 2-1.
The Falcons got down 1-0 in the first half on a goal by the Slaters' Anna-Michelle Fabian.
As the rains intensified in the second half, so did North Country's play.
Brittany Fortier tied the contest after some good Falcon pressure in the Slater end.
She then set up Briana Bocelli for what would be the eventual game winner.
The girls will now face Stowe on Wednesday at UVM.
Game time is 3:45.

Wright Scores a Pair to Send Craftsbury Into the 2nd Round

CRAFTSBURY–Iva Wright had two second half goals to lead the Craftsbury Lady Chargers as they defeated the Danville Indians 4-2 in the opening round of the Division IV play-offs.
"We did really well today and played as a team," said Craftsbury coach Ashley Maxfield.
"Plus it helps when we can play with more than one sub," she added with a chuckle.
When play got underway on Wednesday afternoon, Craftsbury was ready to go.
Melanie Sergiev was leading the attack, heading down the left side of the field trying to through balls into the center of the pitch.
