Falcons Strike First, but BFA Rallies to Earn 1-1 Tie

NEWPORT–The North Country girls soccer team welcomed in the BFA Comets on Tuesday afternoon as the two kicked off their 2014 campaigns.
Devinnie Davis would net her first goal of the season, but BFA rallied back to tie the game with under ten minutes to play in the second, and after overtime settled nothing, the two teams settled for a split.
"I thought we worked really, really hard," said NC coach Jose Batista. "We still have somethings we need to work on, but I thought it was a gutsy performance. We have a lot of people who are banged up, but we will have to play through that."

Falcons Show Improvement in Loss to Milton

NEWPORT-The North Country Falcons kicked off their 2014 football season with a tough 14-6 loss to the Milton Yellowjackets on Friday night.
things got off to great start for the Falcons as a great kick return by Jared Hussey put the Falcons in prime scoring position.
A throw from QB Hunter Stanley to Connor Hogan on the next play sent the senior receiver into the endzone, giving the Falcons their first lead in a long time.
They would hold that lead into the second half before Milton went ahead on QB carry by Tyler Lamphere.

Field Hockey Falcons Returning Bulk of 2013 Roster

NEWPORT–If you look at all of the fall sports teams at North Country, cross country excluded because it is also an individual sport, the group that has had the most success as of late is the Falcon field hockey squad.
They are coming off of back-to-back semi-final appearances, and with just four seniors leaving the team, coach Chantelle Bouchard is hoping to take this year's group on another strong run into the Division III post-season.
"I think because of their experience they know what they are coming up against," said Bouchard of her veteran-heavy squad.

Speed Will be Key for Fresh Faced Falcons

NEWPORT–The 2014 North Country girls soccer team will feature a completely different look from top to bottom, starting with the coaching staff.
Peter Alexander, who has coached along side Jose Batista fro many years has stepped down, and Tracy Muzerall, who has spent the last couple of season as a co-coach of the JV team will by be moving up and assisting Batista this season.

North Country Football Looks to End Two-Year Drought

NEWPORT–Coming back from one winless season is a daunting enough task on its own.
Trying to come back from two consecutive winless seasons is downright terrifying.
However, the North Country Falcons football team and their coaches are showing no fear as they prep for the start of the 2014 campaign.

North Country Band Holds First Ever Allegro Race

NEWPORT-As the morning fog lifted early Saturday morning, August 23rd, teachers, NCU staff, parents, siblings, band members, cross-country runners and NCU Band supporters gathered along the bike path at Prouty Beach for the First Annual 5K Allegro Run to support the North Country Union High School instrumental music program.
Before embarking on the 5 kilometer race loop, contestants were challenged to “beat the band” by crossing the finish line before band members Gabriella Forte and Alexander Cotnoir.

Brisard, Fontanella Win 2014 Arthur Mandros Tournament

ORLEANS-The 2014 Arthur Mandros Member Guest Tournament, played at the Orlenas Country Club, came to a strange conclusion on Sunday afternoon.
After a pair of chip-offs determined the final two teams, it took just three shots into the final hole to determine a winner as Al Brisard and Mark Fontanella were crowned this year's champions after their competition Mike Vinton and Allie Loukes conceded victory after a pair of out-of-bounds shots.
"Golf has been a challenge, and this is actually my first victory at any golf, so it is a very good day," said Brisard.

Red Reynolds Shoots a 70 at NCC to Match His Age

Long time golfer Red Reynolds shot a 70 to match his age earlier this summer at the Newport Country Club.
Said Reynolds, “It was a perfect scorecard with 16 pars and 2 birdies."
Red is one of Orleans CC's most active members.
He plays several times a week, spends a lot of time working on his game, and is involved with the club’s junior members as well.
Red is the 2012 OCC Senior Club Champion.

Pride Fitness Performance; A Different Approach to Training

DERBY CENTER–Tyler Tinker is man of multiple passions.
Two of those passions happen to go hand in hand with each other; Fitness and professional wrestling.
Tyler, after moving back from Florida last year, intensified his wrestling schedule, appearing in independent shows throughout New England, but something was still missing.
With a degree in exercise science, he also went to work as a trainer with Ben Warstler at Ben's Bootcamp in Derby.
After working with Warstler for several months, Tyler offered to buy Ben's Derby location on John Taplin Rd.

Big Weekend For Keselowski at Loudon International

With the dominating performance by Brad Keselowski at Loudon in the rear view mirror, the 2014 Cup chase is nearing its stretch run.
The haves and have nots will be sorted out in the next few weeks, and the process may be just too much for some drivers and well within the means of several others.
Jimmy Johnson had a tough one in New Hampshire, blowing two tires early and crashing for a 42nd place finish, but the defending champ is set to make another run at the top prize, and as his record states, don’t ever bet against him.
It’s been a solid year for Jeff Gordon.
