NC Boys Struggle in Loss to BFA St. Albans

NEWPORT–BFA St. Albans completed the season sweep over the North Country boy's basketball team on Saturday, defeating the Falcons 88-63 to move to 2-3 in 2012.
"We struggled in every facet of the game," said NCU coach Brian Bonvechio. "It was a very tough outing to say the least."
At one point the game was tied 11-11, but the Bobwhites went on a mad tear, and at the break, they were up 49-2.
In the second half they salted it away to put the Falcons' record at 1-4.

BOYS BASKETBALL
HYDE PARK–Drew Gallup's nineteen points paced the Lake Region Rangers, as they moved to 5-0 after defeating Enosburg (3-1) to win the Lamoille Holiday Tournament on Saturday.
Shaquille Urie chipped in eight points in the victory, and now the team will ready itself for Matthieu St. Amour's antics on Thursday as they will host Missisquoi at 7:00.

MT. HOR– It was a tough day at the races for the North Country Nordic ski teams this weekend, as both the boys and girls finished last their respective divisions.

Six Goal First Sets Tone in 11-0 Falcon Blowout Over BHS

JAY–While the weather outside was frightful, the Falcons were so delightful, firing home eleven goals en route to a 11-0 holiday thrashing of the woeful Burlington Seahorses.
"We had a lot of fun out there tonight," said coach Andrew Roy. "Our upperclassmen played well as did our younger guys, who are finding ways to help out in our offense."
The fun got started right off the bat, errr, uh $200.00 composite stick.
Kody Halikas scored the first of his three first-period goals 1:14 into the game, sniping home a low shot past Stephanie Landry from the slot.

Sluggish Start Spells L-o-s-s for North Country Girls

JAY–The North Country girls hockey team continued their pattern of disorganized play in the first period, which eventually led to their downfall, as they lost 3-1 to the Harwood Highlanders on Saturday night.
"Maybe the holiday's started early," quipped head coach Claude Paul. "I don't know what it was, but we couldn't seem to do anything right."
The night started off with starting goalie Mikaella Doran sitting on the bench due to illness, so that opened the door for junior Brianna Bocelli to make her first start of the season.
The Highlanders would not be kind to her.

Craftsbury Sweeps Stephen Willey Memorial Tournament

CRAFTSBURY–Christmas came early to the Craftsbury Academy, complete with a visit from Bill "Santa Claus" Lee, as both the boy's and the girl's teams won their respective divisions of the Stephen Willey Memorial Tournament on Saturday.

Lake Region Enters the Holiday Break in Great Shape, Falcons Lose at MVU

ORLEANS–Drew Gallup had 16 points, and three other Rangers tied with 8 as Lake Region rolled over Peoples Academy 58-29 on Thursday.
The boys set the stage early, outscoring the Wolves 19-2 in the first quarter.
Gallup, Caleb Prue and Dennis Newland each had four points in the opening frame.
From there the points kept on coming.
Fourteen in the second, seventeen in the third, and finally eight in the fourth to wrap things up.
Every member of the team, save for one got in the scorebook on Thursday, making the win a very dominating team effort.

Falcons Win in Convincing Fashion, 54-23

NEWPORT–Anna Bingham led all scorers with fifteen points and the North Country defense held the Cougars to single digits in all four quarters, as the Falcons rolled over Mount Mansfield 54-23.
"I think we played really well together today," said senior Michaela Stanley. "We made a lot of passes on offense and on defense our pressure was intense."
It was evident form the tip-off that North Country was going to have an easy time of it.
Bingham opened the scoring, followed by four points from Desiree Coffin and two form Britni Jewer before the Cougars' Rebecca Rapacz got MMU on the board.

Viens, DeLaBruere Each Net Two in Falcons 5-3 Win

JAY–The North Country boy's hockey team made their home debut on Wednesday evening, defeating the Spaulding Crimson Tide 5-3 to push their record to 2-0 on the young season.
The team was led by Ross DeLaBruere, who netted two goals and added two assists in a very productive four point night.
Already playing with a short bench, injuries to defensemen Brody Jacobs and Nate Marsh made it that much more of a challenge for coach Andrew Roy to find bodies to fill the holes vacated by these two.

Doran Shuts-out Burlington in 1-0 NCU Victory

BURLINGTON–Whitney Bernier scored nine seconds into the second period and Mikaella Doran stopped twenty-eight shots as the North Country girl's hockey team avenged an earlier 3-1 loss, defeating Division I So. Burlington 1-0 on Wednesday night.
"It was a slow start for us, and Mikealla really kept us in the game until we found our stride," said coach Claude Paul.
Indeed it was a rough start for the Falcons, as So. Burlington posted 14 shots on Doran in the first.
As the game went on, the Falcons got better.

Alpine Falcons Start Season

The North Country Alpine team got their season underway at the St.J hosted "Pre-Christmas Carnival Slalom.”
Many new faces hit the slopes of Burke Mountain for the Falcons, and here are some of the results.
