"We had some bright spots and we had some dark spots," coach Andrew Roy said when asked of his overall impression of the game.

Taylor-Webster’s 24 Points Leads UCA Past Cabot 60-47

January 13, 2013

NEWPORT–For a game that ended at 60-47, UCA's win over Cabot in boy's basketball felt a lot closer than it actually was.
Much of the game was played with UCA leading by about twenty points, but Coach Tony DeLaBruere hard a hard time believing the point differential.
"Every time I looked at the score I couldn't believe it and we were fortunate to be where we were at the end because it should have been much closer game," he said after the game.
Things got off to a slow pace, with both teams trying to find a rhythm they were comfortable with.

January 13, 2013

NEWPORT–The UCA girls picked up their third win of the season, and their second over Cabot, as they won a close one 40-37.
It didn't start out too close as UCA came out on fire, scoring sixteen points in the first.
"We talked about coming out strong and it was nice to see them come out strong and be confident," said coach Molly Smith.
Hannah Piette was dealing, knocking home two from downtown and one from a bit closer.
Amy DeLaBruere continues to improve her game and she had four points, as did Laura Libby.

Falcons Storm Back to Earn 2-2 Tie with Rice

January 10, 2013

JAY–Despite playing with a bad back, Taylor Morley had a goal and an assist as North Country rallied to salvage a 2-2 tie with the Rice Green Knights on Wednesday evening.
"From the end of the second period on, it was our game, and I think with a little more puck-luck we would have won in overtime,” said coach Claude Paul. “That is how I want to see us play, the way we did in the third period. It was good to see them come back and get a positive out of a negative start."

NEWPORT–Nineteen first quarter points combined with some tenacious defense fueled the UCA boys, as they defeated Masse Vanier in an international contest Monday afternoon at the Newport municipal building.
“It is a different kind of game on such a small court,” said UCA coach Tony DeLaBruere. “This win was because of the stellar defense in the 1st half, holding them to 9 pts.”
Marquel Taylor-Webster had his best game of the season, scoring 24 points and grabbing 20 rebounds while disrupting many shots in the paint.

Colchester Comes on Late, Hand Falcons First Loss of Season

January 8, 2013

NEWPORT–The North Country Falcons' girl's basketball team managed to hang with the Colchester Lakers for two and two-third quarters before the visitors pulled away in the Lakers 45-33 win on Monday night.
"The biggest picture that affected us tonight was the fact that we could not get the ball inbounds on out of bounds plays," said coach Christiane Brown. "Our offense was also very hot and cold. Sometimes we could run it, sometimes not. When we ran it we looked good, when we didn't run it and it became more of a one man show, it was not a very fluid offense."

Officials Ruin Quarter-final Rematch as Rebels Top Falcons 5-3

January 6, 2013

JAY–If ever there was a contest where the officials dictated the pace of the game, it was the North Country-South Burlington hockey struggle on Saturday night at the Ice Haus.
While the Rebels won the game 5-2, the scoring was not the story of the game, it was the men in black white who were there to “officiate.”
Twenty-one total penalties were called, including 12 on the Falcons alone, and many of the calls made were either inaccurate or of a phantom nature, completely eliminating the possibility of any flow or continuity in the game.

North Country Comeback Falls Short Against Essex

January 6, 2013

NEWPORT–After a high scoring affair that saw St. Johnsbury defeat North Country 101-75 Thursday night, the Falcons were back on the court on Saturday afternoon, taking on the Essex Hornets.
Things did not go much better for the hometown team in this one either as they fell 85-67.
While they did not get the win, the boys did not shy away from their opponent, showing great fortitude in the second half as they tried to rally back into the game.
