Falcons Defence Battles, But Seahorses Prevail in 2-0 Win

NEWPORT–While rains held off, the wind was a blowin' as the Falcons took on the Seahorses in boy's soccer action on Tuesday.
Coming off of an important tie with Essex, North Country looked to keep the momentum going, but Burlington was able to squeak a couple of goals past Logan Fortier and the boys in blue came away with the 2-0 win.

Urie Inches Closer to Record as Lady Rangers Win Again

DANVILLE–Using a balanced attack with multiple offensive outlets, Lake Region's Lady Rangers defeated Danville 3-1 on Monday afternoon.
"I'm really happy about getting offensive production from multiple players," said coach Brad Urie. "Danville is always up for their games with us, but we were beating people to the ball and we got a lot of good minutes from everyone on the field."
Back from her race with the cross-country team, Haley Kennedy opened the scoring for Lake Region, firing home a direct kick from forty yards out with 22:46 left to play in the first.

DeLaBruere Nets First Varsity Goal in Crusaders Win

NEWPORT–Eighth grader Caleb DeLaBruere score his first career varsity goal with 22:00 left to play in the first half, and that is all UCA would need as they one the second game of the UCA/Craftsbury Academy doubleheader on Saturday afternoon.
"I was just really, really excited," said DeLaBruere about his tally. "I didn't think it was going to go in at first."
The win was a huge one to say the least as it puts UCA over .500 for the first time in a couple of years.

Brown’s OT Winner Sends Craftsbury Past United Christian

NEWPORT–The first match of the year between the UCA and Craftsbury Academy girls went down to the wire as it took 89:26 of play before Craftsbury's Meghan Brown was able to get one past UCA's Lydia Saaman in overtime to give the Chargers the win.
"I was really happy when the ball crossed the line and we won," said an enthusiastic Brown after the game. "I thought our team worked really well together and we moved to the ball a lot better today."
"It could have gone either way," said Craftsbury coach Ashley Maxfield. "It was just dumb luck that the ball went in for us first."

Newland Comes Up Big in Rangers 2-0 Win Over Enosburg

ORLEANS - Dennis Newland recorded a crucial second half save on a penalty kick and added an assist minutes later to help lift Lake Region to their fourth win of the season, a 2-0 victory over Enosburg.
As Lake Region clung to a 1-0 lead in the game's closing minutes, Newland, a junior goal keeper, blocked a crucial penalty kick and proceeded minutes later to launch a punt bound for fellow junior Alex Beauregard.
Beauregard pocketed the well-placed ball into the back of the net, sealing the Ranger's victory and a 4-1 start to the 2012 season.

NC Boys Tie Essex, LR XC Girls Place 3rd in Weekend Round-up

CROSS COUNTRY
RANDOLPH–Lake Region ran in the Three Rivers Invitational on Saturday, where the girls team finished in 3rd place.
Leading the Rangers was Emily Close, who finished in 4th place with a pace of 7:06 per mile.
Haley Kennedy, who took some time off of the soccer pitch to get back in the cross country game, came in 10th with a pace of 7:43 per mile.
Emily Millar ran a 7:55 pace for 12th place and Elise Morissette completed the team effort. 

Davis’ Goal and Assist Help Lady Falcons Improve to 4-0

NEWPORT - Fueled by a goal and an assist from freshman Devinnie Davis, the North Country Union High School girls soccer team picked up a 3-2 victory over visiting Mount Mansfield Friday night.
The victory bumps the Falcons' record to 4-0, a solid start after facing Metro League foe Mount Mansfield twice already.
"We're really pleased with our start right now," head coach Jose Batista remarked after the win. "I'd have taken a split with a team like this, so taking two wins from (Mount Mansfield) is icing on the cake."

Tide Rolls Falcons 4-2 in Night Time Soccer Action

NEWPORT–Despite getting twelve shots on net, and a flurry of activity late, North Country's boys soccer team could not quite complete the comeback, falling to the Spaulding Crimson Tide 4-2 on Wednesday evening.
For the Falcons the problem seems to be that of consistency.
They look great for small stretches of time, ten minutes here, five minutes there, but they have been unable to put together the continuous amount of pressure needed to win games in the Metro division.
This lack of on-field continuity has assistant coach Tim Stanley trying to find the solution that best fits his team.

Newport Rec Hosts Punt, Pass & Kick Competition

NEWPORT–The Newport Rec. Department hosted the NFL’s annual Punt, Pass & Kick competition at Prouty beach earlier this week.
The kids, ages 10-15, tested their skills in the three categories, and the winner gets a chance to move and possibly compete at the regionals in Gillette Stadium, home of the New England Patriots.
Last year Tori Kinney made it all the to the Pat’s home where she placed third in New England.
“It was very cool. I have loved the Pats since I was four years old,” said Kinney.

Rangers Offense Explodes in 5-2 Win Over Lyndon

September 13, 2012

ORLEANS–Anthony Wright tallied twice, and Lake Region rolled to a 5-2 victory over Lyndon Institute Wednesday night.
The Rangers (3-1) had their biggest outburst of the season, knocking in a trio of goals in the first 15 minutes of play against the now Division I Vikings.
Junior Clint Provoncha (one assist) and senior Shaquille Urie (two assists) each had a goal, while junior Josh Tibault found the net on a helper from Carl Oberg.
"It wasn't the best played match by us," said head coach Tom Evans. "I'm happy, of course, with the result, but not with our caliber of play."
