July 19, 2012

NEWPORT–Nine runs in the second inning sealed the fate for the Lake Region 2 team as the North Country Orioles picked up the 11-0 win on Wednesday in the opening round of the 14-U Babe Ruth League Championship.
The deck was stacked against LR as they played the entire game with only eight players, and sent Devin Royer, who up until this point had never pitched at the Babe Ruth level, to the mound.

The violent, spot storm that hit us immediately, without warning, with gale force winds and lightning less than 4 miles from Newport’s Gateway Center put an end to Ray Gandy’s historic attempt to be the first person to complete a 50 mile international swim, double crossing Lake Memphremagog, from Newport to Magog and back.

After making a two tire versus four stop during the last caution period Kasey Kahne hung on Sunday afternoon in the Lenox Industrial Tools 301 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway over a hard charging Denny Hamlin to post his first career win at the “Magic Mile” and his second of the season. Kahne seized the lead from Hamlin following a restart on the 240th lap of the 300-lap race at the 1-mile track on Sunday afternoon. He was facilitated by a team miscommunication between Hamlin, who wanted two tires changed, and crew chief Darian Grubb, who thought his driver wanted four.

Action began at the Newport Country Club, and the tour will feature stops at the golf courses in St. Johnsbury, Orleans and will wrap up at Jay Peak.
