September 16, 2012

NEWPORT–The first match of the year between the UCA and Craftsbury Academy girls went down to the wire as it took 89:26 of play before Craftsbury's Meghan Brown was able to get one past UCA's Lydia Saaman in overtime to give the Chargers the win.
"I was really happy when the ball crossed the line and we won," said an enthusiastic Brown after the game. "I thought our team worked really well together and we moved to the ball a lot better today."
"It could have gone either way," said Craftsbury coach Ashley Maxfield. "It was just dumb luck that the ball went in for us first."

September 16, 2012

NEWPORT - Fueled by a goal and an assist from freshman Devinnie Davis, the North Country Union High School girls soccer team picked up a 3-2 victory over visiting Mount Mansfield Friday night.
The victory bumps the Falcons' record to 4-0, a solid start after facing Metro League foe Mount Mansfield twice already.
"We're really pleased with our start right now," head coach Jose Batista remarked after the win. "I'd have taken a split with a team like this, so taking two wins from (Mount Mansfield) is icing on the cake."

Tide Rolls Falcons 4-2 in Night Time Soccer Action

September 13, 2012

NEWPORT–Despite getting twelve shots on net, and a flurry of activity late, North Country's boys soccer team could not quite complete the comeback, falling to the Spaulding Crimson Tide 4-2 on Wednesday evening.
For the Falcons the problem seems to be that of consistency.
They look great for small stretches of time, ten minutes here, five minutes there, but they have been unable to put together the continuous amount of pressure needed to win games in the Metro division.
This lack of on-field continuity has assistant coach Tim Stanley trying to find the solution that best fits his team.
