CV Bounces Lake Region 10-U's From State Tournament

GLOVER–After winning their first game on Friday against Connecticut Valley 13-3, the Lake Region 10-U's lost their next two games to bow out of the 2012 Cal Ripken 10-U Tournament.
Friday's game featured Parker Perron on the mound, and the youngster went the distance, pitching a gem for the home town team.
Saturday was a different story.
In the early game, under a bright and sunny sky, Manchester got to pitcher Jack King early, knocking in ten runs in the first three innings.

Lake Region Sweeps North Country to Win 12-U Ripken Districts

NEWPORT–The Lake Region and North Country 12-U Cal Ripken baseball teams got together for a best of the three series starting last Thursday to see who be crowned the District Champions.
Lake Region, with their power bats and top notch pitching, needed just two games to take the title, winning 5-1 and 9-5.
Starting on the hill for game one were Orleans County Thunder teammates Parker Brown, for Lake Region, and TJ Santaw, for North Country.
The duo were fresh off of a championship run in Drummondville, where they were lights out on the mound for their select team.

Sun Devils Continue to Roll, Rain or Shine

The Lake Region Sun Devils U-16 girls softball team kept rolling along this past week, notching a pair of wins and a tie.
On Saturday, the Sun Devils atoned for an earlier defeat at the hands of the Lyndon A’s, with a 21-6 victory. The win marked the third time this summer LR has defeated an opponent whom they had earlier lost to.

Lake Region and North Country 10-U’s Heading to States

GLOVER–If you are a fan of both North Country and Lake Region baseball, things could not have turned out any better for you than they did on Saturday.
In the 10-U Cal Ripken District Tournament, three teams were vying for two spots at the State Championship to be held in Glover next weekend.
Lake Region, the host team, automatically qualified based on their status as tourney hosts, so it was between North Country and Three Rivers to see who would fill the final slot.
LR and NC squared off in the opening game, a 13-3 four inning win for Lake Region.

Kingdom Crush Become First Lake Region Team to Win Essex United Tournament

The Kingdom Crush soccer club accomplished something this past weekend no team from Lake Region has ever done before.
The Crush won the Essex United Soccer Tournament, the largest tourney of its’ kind in the state.
The two day soccer bonanza featured teams from VT, NY, CT and NH. Their performance over the weekend capped off a perfect 13-0 season.
Winning five soccer games in two days, including 3 hours of games on Sunday, required the contribution of every player to overcome the grueling heat and tough competition.

Wildcats Go Undefeated to Take Essex Tournament

ESSEX–This past weekend it played out like a survivor series. The U-14 Girls Wildcat team outwit, outplayed,and outlasted 11 other teams to become Champions of the 2012 Essex Soccer Tournament hosted by the Essex soccer clubs. Under a cloudless sky, the Island, otherwise known as the Tree Farm, was a swarm of soccer players and their families who came to cheer the girls on to the finish. There were multiple age groups from U-8 to U-17. Derby was well represented sending 16 teams to the tournament.

Newport Country Club Hosts Green Mountain Classic

This weekend the Green Mountain Classic was held at Newport Country Club. This tournament was a 36 hole two-person best ball gross event. On Saturday we had Brian Cook Brew Master of Kingdom Brewing on our tenth tee giving samples of his beer.
The Championship Flight was won by Steve Fisher and Tyler Colter, playing out of Newport CC. They shot 65&70 for a 7 under par 135. Shawn Smith and Dan Griffiths from Newport took second with a 2 under 142.

Orioles Defeat Dodgers 6-4 to Win Ripken Majors' Championship

BARTON–Thursday evening yielded the kind of conditions conducive to playing a little baseball.
Good thing too because it was indeed baseball on the menu as the Barton Dodgers and the Newport Orioles squared off in the Orleans County Cal Ripken Majors’ championship game.
It was a close game that had a little bit of the sublime and the surreal.
Both teams fielded a strong combination of quality pitching and timely hitting, but on this day Newport was just a little bit better, defeating their opponents to the south 6-4.

Sun Devils Avenge Earlier Loss, Defeat Rays 12-6

LYNDON–The Lake Region Sun Devils 16-U girls softball team extracted a bit of revenge Friday night, posting a 12-6 victory over the Lyndon Rays.
Earlier in the week these same two clubs locked horns in Orleans, with the Rays coming away with the 11-9 win. But this time around, the Sun Devils rode the pitching of Michelle Thibeault and Hannah Leroux to garner their third victory on the summer season, with Thibeault racking up 8 strikeouts and allowing just 4 hits in five innings of work, before Leroux picked up the save, fanning four batters in two innings of relief.

Lantagne, Smith Combine for One-hitter as Sun Devils Thump Wildcats 15-0

Orleans-The Lake Region Sun Devils picked up their second victory of the season in girls 16-U Babe Ruth softball action Wednesday night with a 15-0 victory over the Hardwick Wildcats.
Lake Region plated two in the first inning and eight more in the second to jump out to an early insurmountable lead.
Michelle Thibeault smacked a triple for the host Sun Devils, and after an injury reduced Hardwick to two outfielders, Sabrina Roberge took advantage and sent a liner down the left field line that she legged out for a home run.
