Wildcats Earn Split in Weekend U-14 Soccer Action

The Wildcat’s U-14 team was busy over this past weekend.
They had two games to battle, one was a victory and the other a defeat in score only. In the first game Milton came to Wildcat Country and dominated the hometown girls.
As much as the Wildcats battled they could not find the back of the net. Milton is a fast, skilled, and adept soccer team. They moved the ball with a combination of speed and agility that the Derby hadn't seen yet this season. Their passes were precise and they were aggressive going after the ball.

North Country Girls Golf News and Notes

This past week the North Country girls’ golf team competed in two tournaments, hosting their own on Monday the 14th, and traveling to St. Albans on Thursday the 17th.
Completing at the NC Invitational were Paige Gagnon, Bailey Walker and Eilish Muir.
“While the team did not finish first, it did not finish last either,” said coach Brian Hampton.

Prue, Boyer Clutch in Falcons 12-2 Win Over Tide

NEWPORT–Strong pitching, clutch hitting and an injection of some new blood into the line-up combined to propel North Country's baseball team over Spaulding 12-2 on Friday afternoon.
With some players having recently jettisoned from the team, Bonvechio brought up freshman Bryce Carter and junior Aidan Smith to join the varsity squad.
"When coach Bonvechio asked me to play I was ready to go," Carter said about being asked to suit up for the varsity team.
Neither were in the starting line-up, but that would change as they game moved along.

North Country Survives Late Inning Scare in 5-4 Win

NEWPORT–Coach Leslie Dunn was forced to shuffle her line-ups last week due to missing personal, and after a loss on Thursday to Middlebury, she found success on Friday as the softball Falcons defeated the Tide of Spaulding 5-4.
The player that made the most of her call up was freshman catcher Tori Kinney.
In her second game with the big club she she had a key double, two RBI's and scored the eventual game winning run.
"I am getting some real good experience for next year," said Kinney after the game.

Tennis Falcons Defeat Solons 5-2

MONTPELIER–North Country's boys tennis team refuses to lose.
The self-appointed "Junk Yard Dogs" were on the prowl against the Montpelier Solons this past Friday, and once again they took a bite out of their opponents, winning the match 5-2.
In the number one slot Dave Durivage tried and tried and tried again to find a weakness to exploit, but Jackson Watson did not offer one, and Watson took the match 6-0, 6-1.
Travers Parsons-Grayson had what coach Gary Atchinson called "too much game" for Matt Cerce and won easily 6-0, 6-2.

Lady Rangers Earns Second Win of the Season Against U-32

DERBY–Lake Region's tennis team earned their second win of the season on a gorgeous Saturday afternoon as they defeated U-32 5-2.
The team relied on the play of the singles players to get the win. They did not dissapoint, going 5-0 on the afternoon.
The only losses came from the doubles matches, one by forfeit, the other by defeat during play.
Here are the results from a strong day of tennis by the Lady Rangers.
1. Kelly LeBlanc vs. Erin Connor 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-8)
2. Desirae Colorado vs. Claire Puleio 6-4, 6-1
3. Miranda Beaudry vs. Phina Sances 7-5, 6-1

Lake Region Batters Spartans 15-3

WINOOSKI–The Lake Region Lady Rangers used a balanced attack to dispose of Winooski Thursday in schoolgirl softball action, 15-3.
Nine different Rangers got hits, while LR scored in six of seven innings to back the 6-hit pitching of Michelle Thibeault.
The Rangers got things rolling right out of the gates, dropping three runs on the Spartans in the top of the first inning behind Callie Cashin’s two-run double down the right field line. The Spartans came back with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first to make it a 3-2 ballgame, but after that it was all LR.

Ranger Boys Fall to Williamstown 13-7

WILLIAMSTOWN–The Rangers fell to Williamstown 13-7 this past weekend. Lake Region only gave up four hits in the contest, but eight walks, three hit batsmen, six wild pitches and four errors were the teams’ undoing.
On the other side the boys in blue had a great offensive performance, getting thirteen hits, but they could not string enough together to get more than seven runs.
Standouts on offense for the Rangers were Darik Messier who tripled, had 2 doubles and a single, Matt Messier had a double and a single and Alex Menard had 3 singles.
Matt Messier took the loss in the contest.

Morin Medals at North Country Invitational

Lake Region’s Matt Morin was the top performer, shooting a tourney low 72 to Medal. Other LR scores were Devin Morley 113, Carl Oberg 111, and Derik Rodgers 120. For North Country Nick Kincaid shot a team low 80, good for fifth place overall, and Evan Clark came in at 113.

Lady Rangers Win Their First Match of 2012

DERBY–Lake Region's tennis team picked up their first win of the season as they defeated Spaulding 6-1.
"The girls stayed focused and never let their nerves interfere with the chance to win their first match of the season," said coach Laura Laramee.
Every singles player picked up a win on Wednesday despite the threat of rain under ever darkening skies.
Kelly Leblanc won 8-7, Desirae Colorado 8-2, Miranda Beaudry 8-3, Cassie Desmarais 8-0 and Brianna Fontaine 8-0.
The lone loss came from the number one doubles pair, Shaylyn Beatton and Araceli Derbyshire, as they fell 8-5.
