Lady Rangers Rally Late, but Fall Short in Comeback Attempt

Morristown)- Trailing 10-4 entering the final inning the Lake Region Lady Rangers epitomized the ole’ saying “never say die,” plating 5 runs to make the score 10-9, and had the tying run on second base before finally succumbing to defending state champion Peoples Academy on Tuesday.
“I don’t know that I’ve ever been quite so happy after a loss,” quipped Ranger coach Matt Tinker. “These girls just wouldn’t give up, and I couldn’t be prouder of the effort they gave.”

Lake Region Defeated by Peoples’ Power Bats

MORRISVILLE–Kyle Perry gave up six runs in the first, and the Peoples Academy Wolves never looked back, as fifteen runners crossed home plate in Lake Region's 15-0 loss on Tuesday.
Despite a rough first inning, coach Eric Degree was impressed with Perry's ability to regroup and focus.
"Kyle's mental toughness was outstanding. They (PA) have a good hitting team, and they earned their runs in the first, but he was able to bounce back and throw some good innings for us."

Falcons Come From Behind to Take Down Cougars 4-3

JERICHO–Having to forfeit their second doubles match due to low numbers, the North Country boys tennis team started out their afternoon already down one match to nothing to the MMU Cougars.
With the momentum against them, they promptly went out and won three of their first four matches to take a three to two advantage with two matches left to play.
Number one singles player Travers Parsons-Grayson had a close first set, winning 7-5, and then had an easier time of it in the second, winning 6-3 to top Dave Brown in straight sets.

North Country Track Getting into State Meet Form

ST. ALBANS–The NC track team was led by Riley Simoneau, Jason Webster, Haley Tetreault and Dylan Columbia in a ten-team meet hosted by MVU on Thursday.
Simoneau won the shot put with a personal best of 43’ 1.” He was followed by Bubba Collins in third.
Webster led a four man sweep of the discus with a toss of 123’ (approaching his state championship form.) He was followed by Simoneau, Barry Shelton and Josh Brien.
Haley Tetreault finished second in the 1500 to NE champion Ellie Purrier, in a time of 5:09. Tetreault came back and won the 800 by a wide margin.

Deslandes Students Excels at States’ in Johnson

Deslandes Blue Wave Tae Kwon Do Academy attended the spring championships held at Johnson State College on April 14th. These students went and had a good day of competition and came home with 15 medals total and a bike! They range from the young age of 5 all they way up to adult age. The students went and competed in 3 events, Forms, Breaking and Sparring and showed very good sportsmanship while doing so. The competitors train in Newport weekly attending class from 1 to 3 times a week. Classes are offered on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights for ages 4 and up.

LR Boys Defeat Danville Despite Late Inning Drama

ORLEANS–The Ranger boys earned their first win of the season when they defeated Danville 5-4 on Thursday afternoon.
"It was a great team effort. Everyone had to give their two cents in the win."
The Rangers got the afternoon off to a good start, with Evan Royer coming home to score on a RBI single by Corey Whitten.
After a scoreless second, Danville got on the board in the third when Pat Morrissey drove in Scott Remick with a double.
Morrissey then came home courtesy of a Brett Elliot single, and the Indians were up 2-1.

Lady Rangers Take Off, Best Spartans 16-7

ORLEANS–After falling 3-1 to Danville on Thursday, the Lake Region softball team picked up their first victory of the season with a 16-7 win over Winooski.
"Certainly the four games we lost were winnable, and I told the girls that we could easily go on another run like we did last year and win ten of our last eleven. Today we got our running game going, we created some stuff, and that led to some good things.
With a grin on her face Alyssa Royer added, "We are definitely excited. The team is all smiley, smiley."

Baseball and Softball Falcons Go 1-1 on Road Trip

BURLINGTON, VERGENNES–The North Country baseball and softball teams had identical results this past weekend when they traveled to take on Vergennes and Burlington.
On Thursday both teams defeated BHS. The girls, won their contest 6-4, with Mariah Roberts going 3-4 to lead the offensive attack.
Kelsea Cutting was 2-3 with an RBI and Madison Mosher had a homerun.
Kayla Desheneau went 1-1 on the trip.
The boys won 7-5 behind five and two thirds of pitching from Joel Lamarche.
Trevor Monty, Nate Stewart and Jason Hatin each had two hits.

ST. ALBANS–The Lake Region track and field team headed over Franklin County to participate in a BFA hosted meet at the Collins-Pearly Complex.
The Rangers had a strong showing with the girls placing second and the boys taking home third.
