BFA Sweeps Falcon Ballclubs in Late Week Action

NEWPORT–It was tough day to be a member of the Falcons on Thursday as both the baseball and softball teams had a rough go of it against BFA St. Albans.
On the softball diamond, the Comets scored one in the first, five in the second and would go on to add thirteen more runs in the final four innings to defeat the Falcons 19-3.
Despite the loss, coach Leslie Dunn was upbeat about the compete level of her team.
"I said to them in the sixth, 'this is going to be our final inning, so let's just go out and get one more run' and they got two, it was just awesome," she said.

Co-ed and Womens’ Champions Crowned in IROC Soccer Leagues

Women’s Soccer-Tuesday Nights
The ladies from Belli Doni Pottery captured another Womens' League crown by defeating arch-rivals Fortin Transportation in the finals by a score of six to three. Belli Doni reached the finals by taking the number two seed overall and upending the women from Muenier Construction in the semi-finals. Fortin Transportation who took the regular season crown for the second straight session with 23 out of a possible 24 points took down upstart Balls-O-Fire in their semi-final match.

Lake Region Golf Places 2nd in Opening Meet

MORRISVILLE – The Lake Region Rangers took to the course for their first meet of the season at the Copley Country Club on Thursday afternoon. Matt Morin, last year’s Division 3 State Medalist, looks for another strong run in his senior campaign.
The opening meet of the season didn’t fare well for the Rangers however. Morin shot a 4 over 39 to pace the squad. Carl Oberg shot a 50, while Connor Gaboriault and Holden Poirier each placed with scores of 56.

Rookies Pace North Country in Falcons 6-1 Win Over Lake Region

NEWPORT–In just their second match this season, the North Country girls' tennis team improved to 1-1 with a 6-1 triumph over Lake Region Wednesday afternoon.
Coach Marie George, looking to get some of her younger players some guaranteed playing time, had the match kick off with the numbers one, four and five singles and number two doubles taking the courts.
In Lake Region's only win on the day, Kelly LeBlanc bested Rhiannon Rosamillia in number one singles action when after splitting the first two sets 6-4, 4-6, she won 11-9 in the race to ten tie breaker.

Falcons Blast Their Way Past Rice 17-2

NEWPORT–Taylor Blake pitched a two hitter in her first varsity start as the Falcon bats erupted, driving in seventeen runs to fuel North Country’s 17-2 win over Rice.
"She did a great job out there," said coach Leslie Dunn of Blake. "I think she was a little nervous, but as the game went on her location improved."
The lop-sided affair lasted just six innings ,as the fifteen run rule kicked in and mercifully ended the contest for the Green Knights.

Despite Loss, Prue Impressive in 1st Varsity Start

NEWPORT–Wyatt Prue pitched 5 2/3 impressive innings in his first varsity start, but North Country had a hard time getting runs in behind him and the Falcons fell late to the Green Knights of Rice 8-1.
"He had appeared three times in relief, so we decided to give him a start," said Brian Bonvechio of Prue. "I thought he was very strong out there."
Prue also had a productive day at the plate with two doubles and the lone Falcon RBI of the game.
In the first, with the wind blowing out to right, Jon Boyer walked, followed by a double by Nate Stewart to put runners on 2nd and 3rd.

Lady Rangers Rally Late, but Fall Short in Comeback Attempt

Morristown)- Trailing 10-4 entering the final inning the Lake Region Lady Rangers epitomized the ole’ saying “never say die,” plating 5 runs to make the score 10-9, and had the tying run on second base before finally succumbing to defending state champion Peoples Academy on Tuesday.
“I don’t know that I’ve ever been quite so happy after a loss,” quipped Ranger coach Matt Tinker. “These girls just wouldn’t give up, and I couldn’t be prouder of the effort they gave.”

Lake Region Defeated by Peoples’ Power Bats

MORRISVILLE–Kyle Perry gave up six runs in the first, and the Peoples Academy Wolves never looked back, as fifteen runners crossed home plate in Lake Region's 15-0 loss on Tuesday.
Despite a rough first inning, coach Eric Degree was impressed with Perry's ability to regroup and focus.
"Kyle's mental toughness was outstanding. They (PA) have a good hitting team, and they earned their runs in the first, but he was able to bounce back and throw some good innings for us."

Falcons Come From Behind to Take Down Cougars 4-3

JERICHO–Having to forfeit their second doubles match due to low numbers, the North Country boys tennis team started out their afternoon already down one match to nothing to the MMU Cougars.
With the momentum against them, they promptly went out and won three of their first four matches to take a three to two advantage with two matches left to play.
Number one singles player Travers Parsons-Grayson had a close first set, winning 7-5, and then had an easier time of it in the second, winning 6-3 to top Dave Brown in straight sets.

North Country Track Getting into State Meet Form

ST. ALBANS–The NC track team was led by Riley Simoneau, Jason Webster, Haley Tetreault and Dylan Columbia in a ten-team meet hosted by MVU on Thursday.
Simoneau won the shot put with a personal best of 43’ 1.” He was followed by Bubba Collins in third.
Webster led a four man sweep of the discus with a toss of 123’ (approaching his state championship form.) He was followed by Simoneau, Barry Shelton and Josh Brien.
Haley Tetreault finished second in the 1500 to NE champion Ellie Purrier, in a time of 5:09. Tetreault came back and won the 800 by a wide margin.
