Fourth Quarter Woes Sink Falcons in 54-40 Loss Against CVU

NEWPORT–Ten seconds.
That is all it took, just ten ticks of the clock for the face the North Country-Champlain Valley Union girls basketball game to go from one direction to another.
The Falcons went from being down 37-35 with 5:30 left in the game to being down 46-35 with 5:20 left to play, thanks to the Redhawks' Sofia Lozon.
Lozon knocked down a three, the first points of the quarter, got fouled, nailed two from the line, hit for two off of a steal, got fouled again, and again made both of her shots. North Country never recovered, eventually losing the contest 54-40.

9-2 Win for Hockey Falcons is a Senior Night Smackdown

JAY–On a night where they were honored for their hard work and dedication to the game of hockey, the North Country seniors did not disappoint, scoring a combined 6 of the team's nine goals in the Falcons 9-2 win over Harwood.
Nate Stewart was tops in the goal department, as he had a hat-trick in the big win.
Josh Bernier had two goals, and the captain Ebin Fournier had a goal and an assist for North Country.
Junior Adam Viens pumped in two goals, and sophomore Ross DeLaBruere had an outstanding night, recording a goal and picking up a playmaker.

Falcons Comeback to Best Crimson Tide on Senior Night 57-50

NEWPORT– As the Falcons played host to the Crimson Tide of Spaulding Monday night, they paid tribute to their 5 seniors. Josh Puckett, Matthew Benn, Steven Raboin, Taylor Prue, and Devon Martin are what coach Bonvechio calls, “a good group of young men that show up every day wanting to get better.”

Tough Weekend for UCA Hoopsters, Drop Doubleheaders to Mid-Vermont and Canaan

NEWPORT–It was a good weekend to be an Eagle, but a tough one to be a Crusader as both the Mid-Vermont Christian Eagles and Canaan Eagles flew into the Newport Elementary School this past weekend and picked up wins over UCA.
On Friday evening it was Mid-Vermont in to take on the Academy.
As the girls game got underway, UCA was without two of their starters as Nicole Roy is out for the season with a broken bone in her hand and Olivia Foster was out due to medical reasons, so the Crusaders were already at a disadvantage.

Chargers Sweep Crusaders in Double Header at Craftsbury’s Soon To Be Leveled Gym

CRAFTSBURY-The Craftsbury Academy boys improved to 16-3 on the season as they put the pedal to the metal in a 74-27 win. The Chargers had good balance as senior Andrew Marckres netted 22 and fellow senior teammate Jason Martin tacked on another 11. Freshman forward Jon DelaBruere collected ten for UCA.

Rangers Thump Marauders 71-44

ORLEANS–It was a complete group performance by the Lake Region boys on Wednesday evening as everybody on the team made an offensive contribution in the Ranger's 71-44 win over Northfield.
Said coach James Ingalls, "It was a great team effort, all the guys worked hard, shared the ball, and that is why we got the W."
"It felt pretty good to go out there and run the plays right," said senior center James Margolla on his team's play against the Marauders.

Falcons Go 0-3 Wednesday on the Road

Rutland Wins 5-3
RUTLAND–The Falcon hockey girls lost their second in a row Wednesday afternoon, falling to Rutland 5-3 in game one of the North Country-Rutland double-header.
“It wasn't a bad game," said coach Paul, "We did some different things with our breakout that worked and our power-play looked the best it has all year."
Rutland had the upper hand all game, starting in the first where they were able to get two past goalie Tara Langmaid.

Python Wrestling Sending Six to New England Tournament

The NEK Pythons hit the road on Sunday, making their way to the New England qualifier's tournament in Essex Junction.
The team had an excellent showing, and will be sending six of their wrestlers to the New England Championships on March 10th in Plymouth New Hampshire. The rest of the team will head to Mount Mansfield to compete in a regular season event.
The six wrestler making the trip to Plymouth are Josh Roberts, Codey Lamere, Logan Gerrow, Aiden Maher, and Logan and Jacob Sylvester.

ORLEANS – In front of the largest crowd of the season, Lake Region easily disposed of the BFA-Fairfax Bullets, while honoring their 6 seniors for 4 years of hard work and dedication, in the annual “Senior Night.” Emily Comins, Sarah Bedard, Sara Piette, Autumn Beaton, Caylin Gallup, and Kylie Atwood have “represented what it means to be a Lady Ranger,” in the words of coach Mark Tinker.

Falcons Lose Heartbreaker to Essex, 61-59

NEWPORT–This one hurt.
Coming so close to an important victory and having it land just out of your reach can be maddening. That is what happened Monday night when the Essex Hornets were able to snatch victory from the hands of defeat, coming back and trumping the North Country boys basketball team 61-59 in a highly emotional Metro Division showdown.
